Sensible to get best deal for people, says Jaishankar on India's Russian oil import

苏杰生就印度从俄罗斯进口石油表示，为人民争取最好的价格才是明智之举

NEW DELHI: External affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday said that India will opt for best deals to buy oil that is in the interest of its people.

Responding to questions from members in the Upper House, the minister said: "The government does not ask Indian companies to buy oil from Russia but it is a sensible policy to get the best deal in the interest of Indian people."

He further added that India does not stick to just one country for its oil purchase, but it will always opt for the deal amongst all available options.

"Now it depends on what the market throws up," he added.

新德里：印度外交部长苏杰生周三表示，为了人民的利益，印度会选择购买价格最优惠的石油。

在回答上议院议员提问时，这位部长表示：“政府并没有要求印度公司从俄罗斯购买石油，为了印度人民的利益，争取最好的价格才是明智之举。”

他进一步补充说，印度不会只从单一国家购买石油，印度会在所有备选中综合考虑，达成交易。

他补充说：“现在取决于市场的走势。”

The war in Ukraine which started in February has impacted global food security significantly and led to a sudden increase in crude prices following western sanctions on Moscow.

In his assessment of global oil prices, Jaishankar has been saying that oil and gas prices are unreasonably high throughout the world.

According to him, Europe was buying more oil from the Middle East countries which were Asia's traditional suppliers, however, now it was diverted to Europe.

Earlier in November, during a joint press conference along with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow Jaishankar said that India's relationship with Russia has worked to its advantage and New Delhi would like to keep that going. He reaffirmed strong ties with Moscow, describing the country as a steady and time-tested partner.

今年2月爆发的乌克兰战争严重影响了全球粮食安全，随后在西方对莫斯科实施制裁后原油价格突然上涨。

苏杰生多次表示，全球石油和天然气价格已高得离谱。

据他说，欧洲国家从中东进口的石油数量增加了，而中东一直是亚洲国家的传统石油供应国，但现在这些石油被运往了欧洲。

11月早些时候，苏杰生在与俄罗斯外长拉夫罗夫于莫斯科举行的联合新闻发布会上表示，印度与俄罗斯的关系符合两国的利益，新德里希望两国的友好关系继续保持。

他重申了印度与俄罗斯的稳固关系，称俄罗斯是一个稳定的、经过时间考验的伙伴。

Just food for your thoughts, Diesel price in the market are almost on hold since Feb’22 even though crude prices had spiked from 70$/brl to 120$/brl. All the spikes in the market were absorbed by oil companies. Just look at the profitability of all oil companies in India for the Q4 of last year and current year Qtrs, you will see a bright red in all of them. Its easy commenting blatantly upon anything without being informed. Get your facts straight up Common Man!!

When barrel was USD 139, the price was same and when price is USD 83, price is same. Oil companies bled to keep pump prices same now they are recovering that loss. Once recovery threshold is met, benefit is passed on.

Always keep all options open instead of defending Russian oil. Tomorrow if prices go up to USD 120 per barrel and Russia offer USD 100 as against price cap od USD 60 then USA may impose sanctions on India. That will be Hawa Phoos moment for Govt. Hence , better to buy Saudi and Nigerian oil .
