Indians view the US as the biggest military threat after China and place greater blame on Nato and Washington than on Vladimir Putin for his war in Ukraine, according to a new survey.

Some 43% of the 1,000 respondents perceived China — with whom India has a long-lingering border dispute and has seen tensions flare again since 2020 — as the greatest threat, according to the survey by Morning Consult, a US-based global business intelligence company.

However, 22% saw the US as the second-most significant security threat, ahead of India’s historic arch-rival Pakistan, the survey showed.

“While the world’s two largest de ocracies would seem to make for natural partners, especially given their mutual mistrust of China, Indians have strategic reasons to be wary of the world’s Western superpower,” according to Sonnet Frisbie and Scott Moskowitz, who oversaw the survey released on Tuesday. “As tensions between Washington and Beiing increase, the Indian public may be worried about getting caught in the middle of a US-China conflict that destabilizes regional security, putting India at risk.”

If we have to chose between US-dominated world and China-dominated world, I prefer the first option. There are three million people of Indian origin living and prospering in the US. Which other country in the world is capable of offering chances for the talented, hard working and law abiding foreigners? The Indian parents (from the middle class and educated class) always wish their children to get an opportunity in the US or Canada or Britain. Those who cannot aspire for such a possibility view the US as an enemy of the world. That is the truth. The US is the vangaurd of de ocracy, liberty and prosperity.

If US wins against China , which I don't think will happen. Russia will almost certainly intervene if China is attacked. And there is no way US and Japan can send carrier ships to China to defeat it. The Chinese have accumulated thousands of hypersonic missiles and they will sink every US and allied ships. The only way to defeat China if India joins the war. The Indians worry that US will then go back to Pakistan to contain India after war with China. I don't think China will accept defeat. They have missile which circled the world. Do you think they will not press nuke button if their country is threatened by all of Europe, US, Japan?

Indian media is misleading the public on Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia is invading and occupying Ukraine. US and NATO are hel Ukraine in their struggle to push back the invaders but Indian media is singing a wrong story as though Ukraine is the bad guy and Russia is the good guy which is not true. Ukraine is only fighting inside its own country to recover its territory stolen by Russia but Russia is bombarding Ukraine with missiles.

This survey seems to be off the mark. I have not come across anyone who considers either Russia or Iran as a military threat to India. And Turkey, which should be considered as such, is not listed at all.
