For the most part we don't care about China, let alone its regime. However, if we do talk about it we think, first, how China changed in just about ten years from being the source of the crappiest counterfeit stuff to being the world class producer of high quality original stuff, the position previously held by Japan in the minds of commoners.

The second thing that comes to mind is that Chinese rulers turned out to be way smarter than the Russian rulers. This is the path that we could have followed. Instead we decided to destroy the old system. The results are pretty obvious. For the past thirty years both we and China have been starting from scratch, whereas we in Russia could have modernized the exsting base and have a considerable head start.

So, good for the Chinese. Good work. Keep it up. That's what we think.

First of all, China isn’t really . They are capitalist with a “socialist market economy” which means there are state owned enterprises in a market economy.

To answer your question, most Russians couldn’t care less about China. Political Russians might see the Chinese as a temporary ally against the United States, an enemy of their enemy. Nationalist Russians don’t like China “robbing the east”. (Referring to China’s investment in that region) There isn’t a definite pro China or anti-Chinese sentiment that there might be in polarized countries.

I am russian working in Canada for 20 years as a programmer, worked with lots of Chinese from both Mainland and Hong-Kong, they are different, many Hong-Kong people are completely westernized while mainland Chinese are much more patriotic and many don’t like Canada at all except for money and clean environment.

As for politics and economy… of course all world envies Chinese growth rate but would prefer to avoid state of their ecology. As a Russian I understand that ex-USSR disaster served as a good example of how not to trust West. China developed a very good model of development which Russia should copy where possible and applicable

In fact, Russia model looks more like Chinese lately: it looks like it is getting replaced by people who are mostly from former KGB and military - and they care about future of Russia and people more than about extra dollar or two. Russian and Chinese systems converge: china drifts from socialism to state capitalism and Russia drifts from wild capitalism to the same state capitalism.

I am Russian and I love learning about ancient Chinese history, very fascinating and entailing. The philosophy of Confucianism and Taoism is quite interesting, it resonates a lot with me. I also love their city Shanghai, absolutely beautiful and technologically advanced. Russia and China have a shared history. We were both empires that fell into civil war, had a short-lived republic, then finally established a government. However the Chinese were able to modify their system in a way that contributed to tremendous economic growth. They were able to change their country, from a poor agrarian society to the world’s top manufacturer and second-largest economy. In the last four decades, more than 850 million people were lifted out of extreme poverty, it's honestly really impressive. I feel that our relations with China are growing more positive each year and it's great, that we have such an economically powerful ally like China.

The border between Russia and China in Blagoveschensk, the 1980s and modern-day. China has improved so much, it's truly incredible!

The Chinese showed us how the reforms really should be carried out. I hope they will continue to do well in the future. It is good that there always exsts a state that would serve as a counterbalance to exsting ... hegemons. Not to mention the fact that China in its long history has shown itself as not very expansionist regardless high number of it’ s population. Personally, I am pessimistic about the future of my own country, so I can only hope that China will become the most powerful and knowledge-based economy in the world and they will give the world what we have not been able to provide
