Premature to think India will replace China in influencing global economic growth: Raghuram Rajan

DAVOS: Former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan on Tuesday said it is too premature to think that India will replace China when it comes to influencing global economic growth.

达沃斯：印度央行前行长拉古拉姆·拉詹周二表示，现在就认为印度将取代中国影响全球经济增长还为时过早。

However, the situation may change going forward as India is already the world's fifth largest economy, it is growing and has the potential to keep expanding.

然而，随着印度已经是世界第五大经济体，情况可能会发生变化，它正在增长，并有潜力继续扩张。

At a World Economic Forum (WEF) press briefing on the recently released Chief Economists Outlook that saw majority of them expecting a global recession in 2023, Rajan said any recovery in the Chinese economy would definitely boost the global growth prospects.

在世界经济论坛(WEF)最近发布的《首席经济学家展望》新闻发布会上，大多数经济学家预计2023年全球经济将陷入衰退，拉詹表示，中国经济的任何复苏都肯定会提振全球增长前景。

He said policymakers at this point of time are looking at the labour market and also at the housing market.

他说，政策制定者目前正在关注劳动力市场和房地产市场。

Referring to the US, he said housing sales are not happening there, but prices are not falling.

在谈到美国时，他说，美国的住房销售停滞，但价格没有下降。

"Is it all gloom and doom? Not probably...If Mr Putin decides to end the war, there would be certainly an upside," Rajan noted.

He said there are still 12 months to go and if China improves, that could be good.

他说，还有12个月的时间，如果中国有所改善，这可能是好事。

"China is working its way through pandemic and there would be a Chinese recovery this year, probably as early as March or April. Some of that would be in domestic services which may not have any impact outside. But any improvement in manufacturing may have some impact by way of softening prices outside," he said.

“中国正在应对疫情，今年中国经济可能会复苏，最早可能在3月或4月。其中一些将在国内服务领域，可能不会对外部产生任何影响。但制造业的任何改善都可能通过软化外部价格产生一些影响，”他说。

Asked about India, Rajan said, "The argument that India will replace China is very premature as India is much smaller economy as of now."

"But over a period of time, that may change as India is already the fifth largest economy and it can keep growing," he added.

Thank God he was not the RBI governor during kovid. He would have ruined India's finances. Shaktikanta Das did a fantastic job.

He has not seen anything positive ever since he lost the RBI governorship. This man had said India should not increase it's manufacturing sector to compete with China. Every morning you open news and hear this man predicting doom for India.

raghuram is correct. india will never replace bad auth rian chinese influence in global economic growth. instead, india will grow and help other countries grow economically. IMF and raghuram former employer world bank has more faith in india's growth than him. Raghuram, your views have failed and enjoy Rahul company and Congress. india is better off without you.

Desh VIRODHI RAGHURAM RAJAN!!!! nothing that he has said has come TRUE in the last 8 years!!!! It was never in INDIA's VISION to replace CHINA... India always wanted large Industries to come to India so that there is more employment.. we are more SMART than CHINA as of now and would prefer Industries which cause less harm to the environment to make their begng in INDIA .

Now China finished building own Space Station. Chinese scientists are already doing experiments on the Space Station.
