British High Commissioner to India Alexander Ellis in conversation with ANI's Smita Prakash spoke about India’s relation with the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and how India is emerging as a major world power in the coming years. He also spoke about India's candidacy for a permanent seat in the UNSC & China.

Absolutely Right. Brittany will never digest the fact that India is progressing. UK wants India as their smooch. Not happening as long as we have strong leadership. Free Trade Agreement is their need not ours as they want to sell their products to such a big market.

@NPS you lack tye intellectual capacity to understand mate. The Indian negotiators working on the FTA are way more patriotic than you could ever be. They've dedicated a lifetime in the service of this nation. Have some faith in them that if they're doing something, they're doing it in the interest of this nation.

@NPS first of all you have to de-link politics from diplomacy... The person who sits as Prime minister will sit there for 2-3 terms, as long as the party stays in power... But the guys who make bridges on economic and foriegn relations have been doing their job for almost 2-3 decades.. getting an FTA with UK is a huge deal!! Given that now UK is not part of EU, we have been trying even more to get hold of this FTA.. there's so much to gain here.. from export/import trade tarif reductions in various sectors, services, education/work visa benefits, transfer of technology, R&D, Fintech, etc.. U know India has been working on a 5th generation combat aircraft (AMCA- advance medium combat aircraft), and we scouted for the Rolls Royce engine for it in UK.. this was few months ago.. FTA come very handy in technicalities of transfer of technology.. atleast if we get this FTA done with UK now, we can work on later for the 6th generation fighter that UK is also working on (The Tempest).

@Kaleb J It is the same Britian which imposed sanctions on India post Pokharan 2 Our defence forces had to facelot of issues as the spares could not be purchased from UK and USA. It was only Russia and France which provided the spares and maintenance of their equipment with Indian Army etc. India should not go for Rolls-Royce instead for French origin engine. The Britishers have this mind set and will again ditch us sooner or later.

@ANIL GANJOO Indian already went with GE (General Electric) of USA for engine component, Rolls Royce is out of the question now... btw, india is diversifying it's defence imports more.. so reliance on Russia is down now.. USA, UK, France, Sweden are the major partners now for new deals... Infact when Russia offered it's 5th gen Su-57 for India, india refused to take interest.. we are shifting to diversify our defence components with the west.. UK recently in 2022 issued its first Open General Export License (OGEL) in the Indo-Pacific region to India, shortening delivery times for defence procurement.. both india & Uk have even signed agreement recently to make the next gen VSHORAD missiles.. we won't be buying S-500 Russian missiles later, which Russia is keen on offering.. the problem is Russia is offering much to us much of what they are offering to China as well.. so India has making a tactical call in aligning with the western side in defence procurement.. not just S-500 missiles, we are also not gonna carry on with the Russian Kilo class submarines but we have strengthed our ties with the west in producing 6 scorpene class submarines.. Russia can see all this happening that's why they are voluntarily pushing to pitch high level products like next gen air defence missile systems and combat fighter jets to India.. but india is simply not interested in it anymore

@ANIL GANJOO that would be incredibly childish. FTA would benefit India greatly as Indian companies would become a more attractive option due to concessions in customs and relaxation of import duty. Just like any other propaganda media, don’t give it any attention and it’ll die on its own.
