Is the UK as dog-friendly as China?
Christine Scott
A lot of people have dogs and walk them regularly. Most prople carry plastic bags too to pick up,after their dog. I havd never been to China so can't compare.
Dick A Wolf
Most of China is not dog friendly, they soon stab, cut, beat, abuse, torture and kill a dog to eat then to have it as a pet. No matter if it is a puppy or adult. Not many dogs are safe in China. They will eat mostly anything, dead or alive. No sense in a pathetic human ever being like that, but they are.
Misinterpreted Questions
They love dogs in China like nowhere else. Lightly seasoned and grilled, stewed, roasted and many other ways.
Misinterpreted Questions
Absolutely!

What are some places that dogs aren't welcome in the UK?
Dogs working as assistance dogs, for people who have problems with such things as sight and hearing, are normally exempt from all restrictions, including everything mentioned below. But apart from guide dogs and so on:
Dogs are not normally allowed in food shops of any sort, and it isn't usual to take dogs into restaurants, although it's normally fine in pubs, even pubs that do food. On public transport they are usually okay; you used to have to buy a ticket for the dog on a bus or a train, though this didn't entitle them to a seat, but I don't think this happens now.
In rented accommodation, whether short-term, holiday let or long-term, and including places like campsites, there are often restrictions on whether or not you can have dogs there. Not everyone likes the smell of dogs, even dogs that were there several weeks ago, and other families staying there simply may not want your dog around. Don't argue; you're not the owner, so you don't make the rules. In the same spirit, most tax drivers are fine about carrying dogs, but a very few (who are mainly Muslim) may raise objections. It's probably quicker and easier to find a different cabbie than to change his mind, and if it's his car then presumably he can make his own rules.
It isn't usual to take dogs with you to church, to the theatre or cinema, to work, to the doctor's surgery or to visit someone in hospital. Some places do allow this (my son has done some work at their head office for Pets at Home, for instance, and practically everyone had their dog with them), and schools are begng to like the idea of having pets, especially dogs, on school premises, as an aid to good mental health, but that's pretty new, and not yet general. Where it does happen, it means an “official” school dog; it doesn't mean all the kids can bring the family dog. And dogs are not normally allowed in children's play areas.
In the countryside, don't let your dog run loose anywhere near livestock. If a farmer even suspects a dog of chasing his animals, he can just shoot it on the spot. Keep your dog on a lead, there and anywhere you see signs about ground-nesting birds, deer, and so forth.
It comes down to a mixture of hygiene and manners, really. Don't let your dog create a mess (you have a legal duty to clean up after your dog), don't create a health hazard for anyone, and don't allow your dog to create a nuisance or inconvenience for other people. In short, be considerate of others, which is the first rule of being British!

Why are dogs so special for British people?
I don't know if it is a peculiarly British thing for dogs to be loved and cherished as family members.
Our dog is the profile photo on our family WhatsApp group. Other western countries are similar it is not unique to the British.
Dogs are amazing animals that can read human emotions and can be truly loving and loyal and naturally attach themselves to their human family/pack.
I have just yesterday lost my lovely chocolate labrador aged 9 after a short illness following an injury. Despite all our efforts and the vet hospital ICU he succumbed to sepsis.
I felt I owed it to him to give him a chance. Luckily we were insured. He was always so loving and loyal. When we adopted our 3 youngest at age 4 , 5 and 7 almost five years ago he has been wonderful. He adopted them too. They were his children and despite them disrupting his hitherto quiet life he loved them dearly and even used to shepherd them when we were out to keep them safe. His loving calm presence helped the children through their traumas. We all dearly miss him and haven't yet had the strength or courage to move his stuff.

Is it safe to be a dog in China?
Another of these questions. It’s really not that different from a dog in the US. Chinese love having dogs as pets here. And they pamper them just as much as they do in the west.

What is China’s current attitude concerning dogs?
First and foremost, in China, and greater Asia included, dogs are animals.
Animals are sentient creatures. From the Indian spiritual texts like Buddhism, we get the concept of reincarnation, and someone who is being born as a dog might be one of our past ancestors. Who knows? But in the greater picture of things, we must respect and show compassion to every sentient beings.
Dogs are typically human companions, societies from Africa all the way to the new world has been living together with dogs since thousands of years. They are primarily working animal, and then pets or companions for the elites who can afford to feed extra mouth(s).
In the past, most Chinese who are not royals or wealthy dog enthusiast don't normally keep dogs, unless they need them for work like hunters or guard dogs. Other than that, the other role that a dog fill is simply a source of protein: food. Dogs has been eaten almost in every part of the world, China included. At one point in time, dogs occupy the 2nd most popular meat after pigs.
However, like most companion animal, dogs do command a lot of respect among Chinese. There are multiple legends and folk tales that put dogs as messenger from the gods. If you strike a dog at it ran away whimpering, the dog might report your bad deeds to its god, and the angered god might take your fortune away. It is generally forbidden to be extra cruel to any animal, even if you eat them. This is the same as rooster chicken, which are also prized pets in ancient China. They are delicious, but also a beloved companion. To be mischievous with animals is like to be “children": rascal, naughty, ignorant — not wise, not knowing any better.
Dog meat is becoming lesser and lesser popular. Dogs in traditional Chinese medicine is considered as “heat" producing intake. Eating too much of dog food will gets you bad “heat" related ailments like fever, headache, or in repurposed modern terms, high cholestrol, risk of stroke, cardiac problems, and so on.
People who own dogs as pets or family members are ever increasing in China and the rest of the world.
Yes, these trends are clearly more of a sign of China emerging as wealthy and developed economy rather than anything else.
And yes, dogs are still eaten in the less wealthy part of China, or where it is traditional such as the deep south like Yulin, Guangx, the southernmost province of PRC.
