Firstly, I’m not a Chinese and I shouldn’t be answering this question. But after looking at the answers and comments I felt an urge to write one.

But, on Quora I have come to see a lot of negative perception propagated about India. Some of them are plainly wrong and infuriating. One such remark is that today’s India is not ancient India and India is a British construct.

Ancient India was mentioned as Bharath or Hindustan in various Indian literatures and its area was far bigger than present day India or even British India. Even 2500 to 2000 years back, except for ancient Tamil land, the rest of India was under the Mauryas. This included present day Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan

We don’t have to go back 2000 years. Let’s go 500 years back prior to the arrival of the British in India under the Mughal empire. Again, the Mughal empire ruled lot more territory than present day India.

So, my point being modern India evolved from ancient India. Indian culture is firmly rooted to this land. Many are good (e.g. Yoga, festivals, food, tolerance, hospitality, spiritualism) and some are bad (Caste system). India is slowly getting rid of the old practices that are not viable in the modern world. If India was artificially united post colonialism without any cultural belonging to the land, India would have broken apart years ago like many Europeans had predicted.

India was the birth place of Yoga, ancient religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Indians invented zero and were pioneers in astronomy, medicine and surgery. India has ga architecture that stands today even after 1000 years. Some are older than 1500 years. These temples have withstood climate changes, invasions and earth quakes. This indicates ancient Indians were exceptional engineers and architects.

As an Indian, my knowledge of China and Chinese culture are limited. But, I know that like India, China too had a glorious past and it’s doing extremely well presently. Indians I know talk highly of Chinese efficient systems and their fast implementations. While Indians feel that we have a lot to learn from the present day Chinese governance, we rarely talk about Chinese culture let alone talk lowly of it.

Except the infamous caste system in India, most Chinese know little or care little about Indian culture and religion. Throughout history, there is little communication between China and India. Also, Chinese culture or East Asian cultures took national independence as the highest priority, therefore, Chinese could never understand why Indian accept the conquest of Britain, and even take their conqueror’s languages as Indian official language. This is unbelievable in Chinese culture.

Chinese cannot get jealous because China has its own culture, philosophy, civilization and technology which is one of the greatest. They gave the world a lot…like paper, gun powder, silk and lot of things. Culturally they are so close to India. Even the social value system is close to ours. It is the bloody opium trade/war that the British had started, later supported by France and Portuguese, damaged Chinese society, economy and administration. Weakened the emperor's rule. At the same time, some Indian traders too have taken the advantage of the situation and made some blood money out of this dirty trade. People should remember this : Both countries suffered years of humiliation , massecre and, looting under the colonists .

Hence, China and India should work together to protect their security.

The recent change in the attitude of India towards China is commendable.

So, questioner, let me tell you this: Your attempt at divide and conquer won't work on people who knows their history, and many Indians and Chinese do know their history!
