India, China talk on disengagement at friction points

NEW DELHI: India and China held another round of diplomatic talks on Wednesday to review the LAC situation in eastern Ladakh, and discussed proposals for disengagement in remaining areas in an “open and constructive” manner. They also agreed to have another meeting of the senior commanders soon to address the situation, which continues to prevent New Delhi from resuming bilateral exchanges with Beiing.

While a breakthrough for disengagement in remaining areas remained elusive, the talks on this occasion took place in-person for the first time since 2019. Significantly, an Indian delegation led by the MEA joint secretary (East Asia) travelled to Beiing for the talks. This was the first time an official Indian delegation travelled to China for talks with their counterparts since the military stand-off erupted in April-May 2020.
