There is a street in Shenyang called "ita Street", where Korean characters are everywhere instead of Chinese characters. There are three kind of Korean restaurants: South Korea, North Korean, and Chinese Korean (Korean living in Northeastern China with Chinese nationality) restaurants. It is a famous spy center.
I have been to South Korean and Chinese Korean restaurants many times, so I decided to try a North Korean restaurant. After entering, the waiter gave me a menu, and I saw that the tomato scrambled eggs were priced at 120 yuan per dish, about 20 US dollars. Although this is a normal price in New York Manhattan, it is way too expensive for second- or third-tier cities in China.
Many people still went upstairs, and North Korean female college students performed dances for them. It is possible that this place is a spy center, otherwise nobody will pay for the Manhattan price. It is said that the North Korean servers here are children of high-ranking officials, so they will not run away like other defectors.
However, there is a South Korean restaurant just 20 yards across the street from this restaurant, with the South Korean flag hanging outside. I don't know if they will communicate with each other.

That's the most expensive xhongshichaojidan I've ever heard of in my life.

It's obviously a spy center... bruh
You definitely got either a menu for foreigners or something else, because the North Korean restaurants I went to are nothing like you described in terms of price.
Yeah, there are people dancing, but usually, they aren't college students. The ones I saw dancing before were probably 40+ and they get sent from NK for cultural assignments, rotate between restaurants, and get sent home every few months.
People go to these restaurants not for the food (it's usually shit) but for the entertainment.

There's North Korean restaurants in Dandong, Shanghai and Beiing as well. They're not cheap and the food is a mixed bag. However, you get the typical accordeon / dance show, the same thing you'll be treated to when you visit North Korea as a tourist.

I went to a Mexcan place in the US yesterday. The name of the restaurant was Taco Bell. The entertainment was a drunk guy trying to argue with the employees and trying to pay with a bag full of change.
It cost me $20.

Went to one aswell in northern china years ago. The food was terrible, there where some folks doing a "Show" with the loudest music i have ever had to experience in my entire life. Thats saying actually alot, it was so horrendously loud we left halfway through the (Terrible) dinner. Do not recommend.

Many years ago I stayed at a North Korean owned hotel in Shenyang. Forgotten the name. Felt a lot like an upper end Chinese run hotel that did have managers who knew how to run a fancy hotel but with DPRK characteristics. I remember they still had advertising for dodgy “massages” as did most Chinese hotels then. No idea if they were Korean or Chinese I always wondered were the North Koreans running a prostitution business in China???

I think you suffered a severe case of 骗老外. You paid more because you're a foreigner.

Man xta street has the best lamb chuar in Shenyang, yes more expensive than chuar usually is but well worth it.

I wonder if it's something like that for those really expensive Russian restaurants. Never went myself. Wouldn't waste my money like that.

isn't shenyang labelled as a first tier city now?
papaya_banana
No? It's second tier at best. In any case first tiers are always Beiing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou.

I went to the similar restaurant in Beiing like 10 years ago. It was huge and empty, food was decent and definitely not overpriced (being a student I was pretty sensitive about prices)

Sounds like a 'front business ' for some nefarious DPR Korean government activities. Possibly money laundering.
Put in a hidden microphone and camera to see what goes on there the rest of the time.

You are probably not an ethnic Chinese, that's why.
I ve been there a couple of times, never seen such prices.
