US Says China Should Push Russia to End the War in Ukraine

U.S. officials are reacting to the joint statement by China and Russia on the Russian war on Ukraine.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, at the White House press room lectern on Tuesday, said there is nothing from the talks and agreement between the Chinese and Russian leaders that gives hope the war in Ukraine is going to end any time soon.

“If China wants to play a constructive role here in this conflict, then they ought to press Russia to pull its troops out of Ukraine and Ukrainian sovereign territory,” Kirby said. “They should urge President Putin to cease bombing cities, hospitals and schools, to stop the war crimes and the atrocities and end the war today.”

Kirby added that while China should not be considered a neutral party, the United States has seen no indication the Chinese are poised to provide the Russians with lethal weapons.

Well....not ANY effort....because one of the active efforts right now is calling for Ukraine to abandon their land to Russia, sacrifice those populations to genocide, rape and miserable exstence under the rule of a nation that hates them. Completely demilitarize and essentially become a Russian puppet state under the threat of continued violence.

That effort certainly should not be welcomed.

China is really the only country that can broker this peace because if they cut off Russia, they're fucked. China-brokered peace gives Russia an out from a war that is proving far more costly than they expected.

To end the war, if China doesn't pressure Russia to pull out of Ukraine, it has to give Russia some major economic incentives, and promise asylum for the Putin regime if things really goes south for the current government. Otherwise, any call for ceasefire and Ukraine to compromise territory is aiding Russia.

There is no neutrality about this case, Russia is the aggressor, and Ukraine is defending its own nationhood. At this point, if Ukraine stops resisting, stops receiving aid, and the world stops pressuring Russia for the purpose of an immediate ceasefire, there won't be peace in the long term; Ukraine would lose territory, and Russia would resume its assault on Ukraine for more gains once it recovers.

China has the chance to end the war in Ukraine, but unless it completely shifts its diplomatic alignment, or make a generous offer to Russia as an alternative and life line for Russia to divert its attention and resources from the war, all its doing is prolonging the war in Russia's favor.

In order for the war to end, both sides need to be realistic. Frankly, that means a demilitarized and probably independent Crimea. There is no scenario where either side can keep it without serious repercussions.

Except this whole shit show is bad for business. China now has to work around sanctions or risk pissing the US off. While at the same time this invasion just highlights the probability of taking Taiwan and has accelerated the west in preparing for this scenario. China is not happy with the west’s containment one bit which has only increased since the start of the war. China was setup to dominate this century and they were going to do that with economic and military power. If anything the west has become more focused on China as a geopolitical threat now because of the invasion than before.
