Hours before TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew was set to appear before Congress on Thursday, the chinese said it would strongly oppose any forced sale of the company.

Forcing a sale of TikTok would “seriously damage the confidence of investors from all over the world, including China, to invest in the United States,” said Commerce Ministry spokeswoman Shu Jueting at the ministry’s daily news conference.

The US can’t be China.

I don’t agree with banning TikTok without blatant proof it is being used to surveil Americans and used to influence the nation negatively.

There has to be some other way to wage a campaign against TikTok and/or promoting a knock-off that does the same thing so TikTok drops in popularity.

And I won’t download TikTok because I believe it’s a tool of the Chinese gov’t.

Really? Have you tried to actually think about it? It's not complicated: the content on the app is entertaining, and it's easy to make content. I don't use it (anymore) but seriously, come on. The appeal of it is pretty easy to understand.

But remember that Tiktok is China's ONLY global brand. If tiktok gets sold that is a huge slap in the face to the chinese. They'd much rather Biden shut it down than to be forcefully sold. At least if Biden shut it down they can use it for further propaganda on the big bad USA picking on them.

Tik tok is disruptive, and plaguing the youths mind. Even aside from whether it’s used for spying or not the fact that kids do things for tik tok because they want to go “viral” is insane to me. Some beat their teachers to post it on tik tok, others steal cars, fight, and overall disrespectful things. Granted they would do it with or without tik tok, but tik tok is giving them incentive to do so.
