Tokyo demands China free Japan national detained in Beiing

TOKYO: Tokyo has demanded that China release a Japanese national who was detained in Beiing earlier this month on suspicion of spying, Japan's top government spokesperson said Monday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a news conference that Japan's Embassy in China was informed by Chinese authorities that a Japanese man in his 50s was taken into custody in Beiing earlier in March.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson M ao Ning said in Beiing that "the Japanese citizen is suspected of engaging in espionage activities in violation of the criminal law ... and the Anti-Espionage Law of the People's Republic of China."

All foreigners who visit and live in China "must abide by Chinese laws, and those who break the law and commit crimes must be held accountable according to the law," Mao said at a regular news briefing.

东京：日本政府最高发言人周一表示，东京要求中国释放一名本月早些时候因涉嫌间谍罪在北京被拘留的日本国民。

内阁官房长官松野博和在新闻发布会上表示，中国通知日本驻华大使馆，一名50多岁的日本男子于3月早些时候在北京被拘留。

中国外交部发言人毛宁在北京表示，“这名日本公民涉嫌从事间谍活动，违反了刑法……和《中华人民共和国反间谍法》。”

毛宁在例行新闻发布会上表示，所有旅居中国的外国人“必须遵守中国法律，违法犯罪者必须依法追究责任”。

At first moment "Japan has urged China to quickly release the Japanese was detained in Beiing earlier this month?" Instead of following the procedure request a consular visit to get to the bottom? Provide a lawyer if China decide to bring to court, wait for the court sentence then plan the next move. 1) China is not a province of Japan or "small brother." If China answer to the call release the Japanese, how the world look at China? The other way round, if there is a China spy will the Japan release instant at the request of China? 2) With such a demand the Japan official is as good as telling the world admitted have a guilty conscience. Totally failed in diplomatic etiquette.
