Guatemalans expect establishment of diplomatic relations with China

Taiwan region leader Tsai Ing-wen has wrapped up her trip to Guatemala, one of the dozen-plus countries that still maintain "diplomatic ties" with China's Taiwan region. Some Guatemalans have called for breaking ties with the region and establishing relations with China.

台湾地区领导人蔡英文结束了对危地马拉的访问，危地马拉是仍与中国台湾地区保持“外交关系”的十几个国家之一。一些危地马拉人呼吁与台湾地区断绝关系，与中国建立关系。

It will be interesting to see how the US reacts with China moving into their so called "sphere of influence" and gaining power as well as potential military bases as in the case of Argentina.

I think it won't be that long before Guatemala rejoins the world community on this issue. They must be feeling more and more ridiculous being near alone on it. And for the island nations that still recognize Taiwan, I hope they too finally realize that there is nothing to be gained by being allied with a non-exsting nation.
