Stretching some 67 km or approxmately 41.6 miles north to south across Jamaica, the $600 million four-lane highway snaking around the mountains and is lined with luxury hotels, restaurants, and bars is our subject of interest today. Nicknamed the "Beiing highway" – after the Jamaican former sprinter Usain Bolt reportedly turned down a chance for the road to carry his name – the state-of-the-art tolled carriageway is the most striking sign that the Chinese treasure ship has arrived in the Caribbean. The tolled highway, paid for by Beiing, cut driving times from Kingston to the tourist resort of Ocho Rios on the north coast from nearly two hours to 50 minutes.

That highway will benefit Jamaican for the next 100 years, in terms of linking the capital city with the tourist centers, it could be worth billions to the Jamaican economy. Many thanks to the Chinese people, and I know it was not free, but which other country has helped Jamaica to this extent?

Jamaica did asked England for the loan. After England reconnaissance of the terrain. They said it was impossible to construct the road because of the difficult terrain. When China took it on and finished it. The English were shocked. Currently England building a high speed train line from London to Manchester which will take ten years to finish. China asked for the contract and promised to finish it in 5 years. Of course they won't give it to China because of the proxy war going on because of Ukraine and Russia when China and Russia are close friends.

Ahhh.. No.. It was never called "Beiing Highway"... It was called "Highway 2000" from before China took over the project from a French company that failed to meet any of it's deadlines and keeps raising the costs. Also, before the highway, it uses to take between 1hr 15ins to reach Ocho Rios, but now takes about 40mins.

China has been showing in their country that they know how to build(roads, bridges etc) and Jamaica has benefited from their expertise, but they are not doing it for free. They will be earning back their expenditure for many years.

They fail to mention that locals are stating the road is already begng to deteriorate ( not suprising given its poor chinese construction ). The access to land and rights granted as well as the already large Chinese population has Jamaica looking like a vassal nation to China.
