The emergence of a new 'space race' is making the rounds online. This race is between the two powerful geopolitical nations- US and China. Both nations are ram up their capabilities, following many of the exciting launches in recent years.

Seems to me that China is playing the long game and they are less interested in first to space wins all and such.

The soviets were first to space, first to build a space station, first to spacewalk, first to send something to the moon, etc. and most people only know the USA landed on the moon first with a person. However, whilst USA has done a lot of incrementally great things since, it has not done another of this kind of leap forwards in more than 50 years. People have it in the back of their minds that it would just be a pissing contest where everyone packs up and stays quiet after again for another 50 years. The Chinese would be much better served to use the lunar surface for setting up permanent structures with multi-decade goals with maybe even bigger ambitions for space generally.
