To be really very honest, it's not at all safe to travel in indian sleeper class train, forget about females, it's not even safe for a middle class male. I have travelled for many years on Indian Railways and I have never had an issue. On many occasions I have been on night trains alone as a woman. I have never felt unsafe. I’m sure incidents can happen but I can tell you I have had many more unpleasant experiences on trains in Europe than I ever have in India.
