Army plans integrated battlefield surveillance centres, even as several projects under way to boost capabilities for digitized battlefields

NEW DELHI: The Army is slowly but surely cranking up capabilities to fight in the increasingly digitized battlefields. The force is now going for integrated battlefield surveillance and intelligence centres, which will get feeds from a wide array of sensors ranging from satellites and drones to radars and troops on the ground, to provide a composite operational picture for commanders on both the China and Pakistan fronts.

The integrated surveillance centres, dozens of which will be in place for field formations by December 2025, are part of the several “automation, digitisation and networking” projects underway in the 12-lakh strong Army.

Indian army is obviously outdated. Today it is all about technology, mostly remote controlled backed by intelligence and surveillance. Large numbers of people are not needed as foot soldiers but tech savvy people are needed and good brains never goes out of fashion. All efforts towards modernization of armed forces are always welcomed and we never feel dejected where our tax money is going.. but I feel more than a war, the military should gear up themselves better to face counter insurgency operations. Our peacetime casualties in Kashmir are at an all time high at the moment. It is sad to see loss of young lives every other day in these encounters. The Ministry of Defense has something to do with it.
