That's decent income to live in Bengaluru. Below are the monthly expenses for a family with normal lifestyle:
10000 - Kids Education
2500 - Public transport or Fuel
2500 - Utility Bills
12000 - Rent
10000 - Groceries and vegetables
5000 - Weekend masti
5000 - Family shop
That sums up to 47000, make it 50000. You are still left with 20k which you can use for investment and policies.
Medical expenses are unexpected and inevitable so I have not considered it. Put aside another 2k for that.

I'm surprised to see so many comments regarding rent in Bengaluru and I thought it will be better to explain with examples.
I lead a simple life and stay with parents.
In 2011 December I moved to a 2BHK house in Ramamurthy Nagar for Rs.8500 rent. There was increment of 10% every year (9350 - 2012, 10300 - 2013, 11300 - 2014, 12500 - 2015). There are very few apartments but a lot of individual houses.
Where is this Ramamurthy Nagar?
This is one of the rapidly growing areas in Bengaluru. It is 8kms from Manyata Tech Park, 10kms from ITPL, 10kms from Marathhalli, 7kms from Baghmane Tech Park.
Actually the issue with people (who think 12k rent is unrealistic) is, they want their rented place very near to their office (preferably adjacent to their office).
Ramamurthy Nagar
Marathhalli, Bellandur, ITPL/Whitefield, Electronic City are the IT hubs in Bengaluru (wait, are they part of Bengaluru? Yes of course but real Bengaluru is somewhere else). So it is obvious that rent is too high in these areas and these people never seem to have gone inside the Real Bengaluru.
I agree there are advantages like "No Travel" etc but point I am making is you can get a 2BHK house (not apartment flats, they are costly) for 12000 - 13000 in Bengaluru & I am the example.
If I am not earning much, I will stay about 10-12 kms far from office and save 5000 in rent and use 2500 for my travelling/fuel for bike. That's savings of Rs.2500 & it is huge for me.

It is a little challenging for a family of 4 to live in Bangalore with a salary of only Rs. 70,000 per month. However, with smart planning, discipline and the right actions, you can do it and even enjoy a decent living. Let’s start with the house, as a major part of the salary goes into paying the house rent, it is important to find a decent house with reasonable rent so that you can save more.
Make sure that the house you are planning to take on rent is near your workplace so that you save your time, energy as well as money in commuting. Instead of running after brokers, try to find a flat for rent in Bangalore on online portals that offer brokerage-free houses.
As far as other expenses are concerned, let’s look into these:
• Rent - INR 15,000
• Education for kids - INR 10,000
• Groceries - INR 12,000
• Commuting - INR 3,000
• Utility Bills - INR 2,500
• Weekend with family - INR 7,000
• Medical expenses - INR 3,000
That leads to INR 52,500. You are still left with decent money to save or invest in your future. Whether you are going for furnished apartments for rent in Bangalore or unfurnished, go for brokerage-free online portals. Some of them also offer additional benefits like low or zero-deposit homes, free house tours, attractive referral programs and more. As we have seen above, if you can find a house for rent in Bangalore at a reasonable price, you can easily manage your monthly expenses with a salary of Rs. 70,000 per month.

I guess its a stupid question to ask.......may be there are people wid 7000 who make a living......its the choice of lifestyle.....may b ppl wid an income of 700000 find it difficult.....always adjust your needs to your salary instead of asking how can i survive...and if you are worth more than 70000 then go and find yourself a suitable job

I guess this depends on what kind of lifestyle you adopt. As a bachelor one can survive with 15 k a decent living without much of compromise.
If you have a family with single income you can live comfortably with 25 k still left with saving.
For people with extraordinary lifestyle even a lakh per month is not enough

The key to spending less is to cut back our expenses by a small amount in every area. It helps simplify life. We may fool others by showing that all our expenses are necessary, however at the end of the day it is hard to fool ourselves.
I want you to sit back and take a deep look at your values about money. Spending Rs. 500-750 monthly on a mobile bill seems feasible, however, we may think twice to buy a health insurance cover worth Rs. 5 Lac, which would cost us Rs 4,000 per annum or Rs. 350 per month.
We get so caught up in our lifestyle expenses that we fail to realize that we're spending a great deal of money on things that may not be any value.
Let us list down a few handy tips to Less & Save More!
Shop list – Yes it is necessary to make a list of the things or groceries you want to shop for. This helps you stick to the plan and ensure that you don’t buy what you don’t want
Be Brand wise – Always know your brands and all their inexpensive alternatives. However, you don’t have to compromise on the quality at all
Use discount coupons – On a Sunday, over a cup of coffee, do collect all the discount ads for that products you buy or may need in the future
Don’t use credit card/Debit Card frequently – Cash expenditure helps you keep a check on your expenses. If you use a card, you might end up overspending
Shop less – Although it may sound harsh! You have to ensure that you don’t end up buying anything that catches your fancy
Maintain an expense sheet – It is highly recommended that you maintain an expense sheet. This gives you a clear picture. Also, there are many phone-based apps to track your expenses on a real time basis
Maintain your bike – Although it may sound funny, for those of us who own a bike, not maintain it properly could cost us a great deal. Hence ensure regular maintenance to avoid unnecessary repair spends in the future
Even if some of these tips are followed, you could keep them aside for the future. Cumulatively they would add up to a bigger amount at the end of the year, which you can use to maybe go on that family vacation which was not possible till now.

Well it all depends on you..
How much comfort or lavishness you need?
Which area you are residing at?
Do you have any liabilities (loans) or not?
How would you spend your weekends?
Do you travel through public transport or by your own vehicle?
It does not matter how much you earn, what matters is how much you save out of that earning and then how you invest that earning is the biggest decision which will decide your quality of life 10, 20, 30 years from now. So save for sure but invest it very intelligently.
