India deploys P-8I aircraft to help search & rescue operations for capsized Chinese vessel

NEW DELHI: In swift humanitarian action despite the continuing military confrontation with China on the northern land borders, India deployed long-range P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to help in the search and rescue operations for the 39 crew members of the Chinese fishing vessel that capsized in the southern Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

新德里：尽管印度与中国在北部陆地边界持续发生军事对抗，但印度还是迅速采取了人道主义行动，派出了远程P-8I海上巡逻机，帮助搜救在南印度洋地区倾覆的中国渔船上的39名船员。

The Indian Navy swung into action on Wednesday to deploy its air reconnaissance assets in the shape of P-8I aircraft, which are packed with radars and electro-optic sensors, after receiving the distress report about Chinese vessel Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028 sinking around 900 nautical miles (1,667-km) from India.

The P-8I aircraft undertook sorties on both Wednesday and Thursday “to carry out multiple and extensive searches despite adverse weather conditions” and even managed to locate “multiple objects possibly belonging to the sunken vessel” on the high seas, an officer told TOI on Thursday.
