India will do all it can to end the war through dialogue and diplomacy and help ameliorate the pain and suffering of the Ukrainian people, PM Narendra Modi told Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in their first bilateral meeting since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Modi assured Zelensky of continued humanitarian aid from India in the meeting that was sought by the Ukraine president.

Modi also told Zelenskyy that the latter understood the pain of war better than anyone else and that what's happening in Ukraine was not a political or an economic issue but an issue of humanity and human values. Zelenskyy again invited Modi to join the implementation of the Ukraine Peace Formula.

The meeting took place on the margins of the Hiroshima G7 summit, which unveiled fresh sanctions against Russia. While Zelenskyy also invited Modi to visit Ukraine, foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra confirmed after the meeting the Ukrainian president wasn’t invited by Modi for the G20 summit that India will host in September. He said there was no discussion on that issue in the meeting.

I want to assure you that India, and I in my personal capacity, would do whatever we can to resolve the situation,’’ said Modi in his public remarks to the president.

According to Kwatra, while expressing concerns about the war, Modi spoke about the wider impact of the conflict on the develo world including economic insecurities in the form of food, fuel and fertiliser shortages.

the only thing putin wanted was for Ukraine to not align with the west or atleast remain neutral. now the only solution is to create a buffer between Russia and Nato border. Belarus is there at one end and Ukrain will have to either change its policy which means end of Zelinsky or part with some of its territory that is pro Russia to create the buffer. Anything else is a wishful thinking.
