First cross-sea high-speed rail starts joint debugging, testing
China's first cross-sea high-speed railway started system debugging and testing when a test train pulled out of Fuzhou South Railway Station in eastern Fujian Province on May 20. The construction of the railway connecting the provincial capital and the port city of iamen commenced in September 2017. The line extends 277.42 kilometers passing several port cities, including Putian, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and across three bridges over Meizhou Bay, Quanzhou Bay and Anhai Bay. The trip between the two cities is expected to take less than one hour, with a maxmum designed speed of 350 km/h.

350km/h, it will take about 50 minutes to travel the distance of 294.118 kilometers from X iamen to Fuzhou.
One day in the future you can take the train from ingtan to Hsinchu Taiwan in 32minutes.

Wish the People's Republic of China all the best in connecting Fuzhou City with Taiwan Province with China's state-of-the-art cross-strait highspeed rail & motorway. I opine PRC now has got every strength & experience needed to do it successfully all by its own will, wisdom, technology & capacity. I love to see one or two artificial island(s) emerging from the sea in Taiwan Strait as intermediate connections very soon. There is no fear for any external unfriendly interference which will be driven away by the beloved & respected PLA easily.

From what I have seen, China is not worried about all rails being profitable. Some are just to connect people who would ve left out.

The issue with HIGH speed rail China is facing is the cost to keep them all running. While they claim to not have debt, China is carrying a higher percentage of debt to GDP than the US is. The way they hide this is by dum roughly half the debt onto each province, kinda like a state level bond. Unfortunately their provinces don't make money like US states do, and many of the provinces won't ever make money since either their workforce leaves the local area's to work, and not return, or the rates the workers make don't generate enough in taxes to pay the debts.

The main reason why China can build trains or anything easily because all lands belong to state.

Seeing how fast megacities have grown in China over the last couple of decades, an unprofitable line now might be profitable in ten years.

The railroad itself may not be profitable, but the overall economy will benefit from the high-speed rail network especially those inland provinces.
