Army intercepts messages, fears ‘likely use of human shield’ in Manipur attacks

GUWAHATI: The Army said on Sunday to have got wind of "a nefarious plot" regarding "likely usage of human shield" in planned attacks of the kind that have ravaged Manipur, based on intercepted transcripts of communication between two groups of "miscreants".

Quoting intercepted communication between "Party A" and "Party B", the Army said the plan was for the latter to execute a subversive plan during the day. "We will remain in the frontline and the whole public will be the backline or 2nd line. After that, we will destroy a village," reads the transcript.

When Party B sought to know the location of the village and the target area, Party A purportedly responded with details that were blurred in the transcript released by the Army. Party A then asked Party B to arrange a vehicle and be ready to execute the plan, the Army said.

Later, Party B sought an update and was quoted as saying, "I will bring 15 people to fetch the arms."
