Catching up China is not easy, as the Chinese economy and per capita income are five times that of India. Even if India maintains a steady growth of 6 to 8% per annum India may take 30 to 50 years to catch up with China. This is kee in view the Chinese economy remains stagnant but if China also grows then it is not going to be easy to catch up with China.

It’s highly unlikely that India will be a global superpower and overtaking the US and China in the 21st century. The gap between them is just too big for India to catch up. It’s simply exceeding difficult for India to beat US and China economically.

If you use PPP GDP then the gap between them is smaller but still exceeding difficult for India to beat US and China economically in the 21st century

My conclusion: Indian GDP will not beat US and Chinese GDP in the 21st century. If you go beyond that, then anything is possible and is very hard to predict. Perhaps by year 2500 or 3000, India will have a chance to overtake US and China’s GDP.
