NEW DELHI: The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday said that Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 1.80 lakh crore have come back to the system after the government's decision to withdraw them from circulation.

新德里：周四，印度储备银行表示，在政府决定召回流通中的2000面额卢比后，1.8万亿2000卢比纸币已经回到银行系统中。

"About 50 per cent of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation has come back in the banking system. So far, Rs 1.80 lakh crore have come back after the announcement," he said during an interaction with media after releasing the bi-monthly monetary policy.

在发布双月货币政策后与媒体互动时表示：“流通中的2000卢比纸币，约有50%已经回到银行系统中。到目前为止，在宣布之后，1.8万亿卢比已经回来了。”

As on March 31, 2023, he said, Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 3.62 lakh crore were in circulation.

Last month, the RBI announced that it is withdrawing its highest denomination currency note from circulation. The Rs 2,000 note, introduced into circulation in 2016, will remain legal tender but citizens have been asked to deposit or exchange these notes by September 30, 2023.

The decision is reminiscent of a shock move in 2016 when the government withdrew 86% of the economy's currency in circulation overnight.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India left its key interest rate unchanged for the second time in a row but signalled that it wants to see inflation moderate more while preserving the growth momentum.

The monetary policy committee (MPC), which has three members from RBI and an equal number of external experts, voted unanimously to keep the benchmark repurchase, or repo rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent.

The central bank kept its GDP growth projections for the current fiscal (April 2023 to March 2024) unchanged at 6.5 per cent while marginally lowering the retail inflation expectation to 5.1 per cent from the previous 5.2 per cent.

央行将当前财年(2023年4月至2024年3月)的GDP增长预期维持在6.5%不变，同时将零售通胀预期从此前的5.2%小幅下调至5.1%。

whatever the critics says, 'shifting goalposts', 'clueless decisions', 'common man inconvenience ' , 'scam' etc. etc... 1 thing is for sure, now the black money hoarders are scared of kee cash. But saying that ..now such people are converting those in gold and such precious things.. govt. have to be 1 step ahead of such people and at the same time help people and incentivize them to be honest and pay tax for the good of country.
