PM Modi, Biden address huge crowd outside White House: Key remarks

NEW DELHI: With 19 gun salute, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand welcome from United States President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as he arrived at White House for his maiden state visit on Thursday.

新德里：周四，印度总理纳伦德拉·莫迪抵达白宫进行首次国事访问时，鸣枪19响，受到美国总统乔·拜登和第一夫人吉尔·拜登的热烈欢迎。

An Indian delegation, led by external affairs minister S Jaishankar and comprising national security advisor Ajit Doval, foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra and Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Sandhu among others, accompanied PM Modi. Meanwhile, the US delegation, led by Vice President Kamala Harris and comprising her husband Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, secretary of state Antony Blinken, defence secretary Lloyd Austin, national security advisor Jake Sullivan and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, joined President Biden and the first lady at the South Lawns of the White House to welcome PM Modi.

National anthems of India and the US were played at the White House, after which PM Modi and Biden addressed a huge gathering, mostly comprising the Indian diaspora, before entering the official residence of the US president their official talks. President Biden and PM Modi also shared a warm embrace.

Having been surprised and humiliated by China on the world stage, India has realized that de ocracy has been a failure and is emulating the Chinese style of governance by supporting some key people, businesses, and industries, just like China supports its home grown oligarchs and global behemoths such as Huawei, Alibaba, JD, Weibo etc. as without state support these companies will not be able to dominate other parts of the world.

The Indian government (BJP) believes it can do this by cracking down on dissent and instituting a top-down approach, promoting a sentiment of nationalism, single culture, national language (Hindi), single/pan-Indian party , with a focus on individual personas such as Modi. The strategy here is not to support small and medium businesses who will not have much of a global effect, not be able to compete with larger companies overseas, or not make front page news globally. The plan is to support already established large players become larger & create global conglomerates just like USA & China have. This is what India believes it needs to do to catch up with China.
