GANDHINAGAR: Even as the Gujarat government has begun putting up infrastructure for Ahmedabad to bid for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, the state government has indicated that it could bid for Ahmedabad hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games. This even as Australia's Victoria on Tuesday pulled out of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games, citing ballooning costs.

Sources in the Gujarat government informed that it had been preparing for Ahmedabad to make a bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, and had set itself a target of completing all infrastructure work by 2028, but it is now actively considering the prospect of bidding to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, and is hopeful that the Union government be in favour of Ahmedabad bidding to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Union home minister Amit Shah has been personally supervising progress of work on various projects connected to the Olympics bid, and the top leadership of the BJP has asked the state government to simultaneously begin work on all connected projects, sources said.

Following the development of Victoria pulling out of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Gujarat is confident that it will get a nod from the Union government to make a bid for the 2026 Games at Ahmedabad," sources claimed.

No, that's a terrible suggestion. When a developed economy like Australia with one of the highest per capita income of 58k USD has backed out. India with a per capita of 7k USD should not even think about it now.,Such games historically has been an investment with almost no returns and have derailed economy's, Athens is one good example.,We have other pressing things to do and our focus should be far away from such over glorified stuffs.
