Vande Bharat for common man? Indian Railways is looking to introduce a new affordable non-AC train that the common man can look forward to. After ram up the roll out of Vande Bharat Express trains, Indian Railways is now ho to manufacture a new train with upgraded second class unreserved and second class 3-tier sleeper coaches.

The name of the new train has not yet been decided, but the idea is to make a train with better travel experience for the common man. The new train will have some features similar to the Vande Bharat Express trains, an official told TOI.

However, unlike the Vande Bharat Express which is a self-propelled train set, the new modern train will be loco hauled. The catch is that while most Indian Railways trains are hauled by one locomotive, this will have locomotives at both ends. Importantly, with a locomotive at each end, the train will be able to make use of the push-pull technology for faster acceleration. This will also eliminate the need for locomotive reversal at the terminating station, hence reducing the turnaround time.

The LHB train will have 2 Second luggage, Guard & divyaang-friendly coaches, 8 Second Class unreserved coaches and 12 Second Class 3-tier Sleeper coaches. All coaches will be non-AC.

The locomotives for this new train are being manufactured at the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and the train coaches will be made at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. ICF is the only Indian Railways coach factory that is currently manufacturing the Vande Bharat Express trains.

A railway official told TOI that the prototype of the new train is expected to be rolled out by the end of this year, with the Railway Board having set a target of October.

Why is the brainless pm not allowing AC coaches to be introduced for poor class people. Just because AC will consume more electricity and the ticket price will be less doesn't mean the poor class doesn't want AC. Whatever is the case he is getting tax from the poor, hence there should be AC made available for the middle and lower class as well for low price range so that even poor people can travel in comfort.....

Biggest problem is middle class and lower middle class not getting confirm tickets in sleeper class. They don't need vande bharat. They need confirm sleeper tickets and Railways is doing nothing about it.

So much space is wasted in rail coaches due to faulty design. If seats as in bus are provided with a luggage rack running across the coach, at least 150 and perhaps 200 seats can be provided to ensure clutter free travel, especially, in unreserved class easily. Each railcoach is as big as two, perhaps more buses, yet despite people being seated on floor, luggage racks and corridors, even a busload of passengers make for a filthy, congested ride in a train unreserved coach.

The build quality of LHB coaches are very pathetic. Thanks to high level of corruption in sourcing interior fittings and fixtures. The taps and basins in the coaches looks and feels very flimsy and doesn't seem to serve in the long run. ICF coaches had always had trouble free accesories.

Railways going in right direction. Better facilities, faster travelling time at affordable prices. However continuance of unreserved coaches is a bad idea because it always leads to overcrowding. Better to increase ticket fares slightly and arrange reserved seats 4 abreast and 1 sleeper above.

No travel should be non-ac, be it road or rail. introducing winter and rainy season ac-off coaches may compensate the fare.

With power drawn from over head contact wire, providing AC is not costly for capital as well as running cost, railway should aim for all train with AC , as all the metro trains are AC and people do not mind paying little extra for peaceful and confertable journey. .

the biggest problem the vande Bharat feels like a Chinese made as it has so many great features yet it's so lightly built and unsafe ....as I feel ...as it's not lhb .coaches Also it has huge problem when it rains heavily and storms ...
