41 people of Meitei community reach Assam from Mizoram after threat over Manipur video

GUWAHATI: Forty-one Meitei people arrived in Assam from Mizoram after an ex-militants group asked the community to leave the state following the viral video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur, officials said on Sunday.

According to Cachar's Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, these individuals arrived in Silchar from the adjoining Mizoram on Saturday night and have been housed at the Lakhipur Development Block building in the Binnakandi area.

"They are saying that they will stay here till the situation normalises," the SP said, adding that Assam Police is providing security to them.

In the wake of ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur on May 3, thousands of individuals from Meitei, Kuki, and Hmar communities sought refuge in Assam. However, reports emerged of some Meiteis fleeing Mizoram, where they had sought safety, after an ex-militants' association in Mizoram advised them to leave due to tension sparked by a viral video showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur.

Divide is clear now in Manipur, The Govt at the center and at the state is providing all protection to Meitei and letting Kukies which constititute other religious group to suffer and get killed. This is the reason the Meitei from Mizoram have shifted to Assam to get shelter from state Govt. So no stoppage to arson and killings in Manipur and Manipur peace not agenda for the Govt agencies.
