CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday condemned Union Home minister Amit Shah’s statement that there was a need to develop acceptance for the Hindi language without any kind of opposition, even if its pace was slow.

金奈：联邦内政部长阿米特·沙阿称有必要在没有任何反对的情况下建立对印地语的接受，即使步伐缓慢。周六，首席部长M K斯大林对此表示谴责。

“Our language and heritage define us – we won’t be enslaved by Hindi… Igniting the embers of the ‘1965 Anti-Hindi Imposition Agitations’ would be an unwise move,” Stalin tweeted.

“我们的语言和传统定义了我们，我们不会被印地语奴役……点燃‘1965年反印地语骚乱’的余烬将是一个不明智的举动，”他在推特上写道。

Chairing the 38th meeting of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language in New Delhi on Friday, Shah said respect for heritage was incomplete without respect for language and acceptance of official language would come only when respect is given to local languages. He said Hindi was not in competition with local languages, and that the nation would be empowered only by promoting all Indian languages.

Stalin, however, said, “I strongly denounce Union Home minister Amit Shah’s audacious push for Hindi acceptance. It’s a blatant attempt to subjugate non-Hindi speakers.” He said Tamil Nadu rejected any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition.

Condemning Shah’s statement, minister and DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin said the unde ocratic stance disregarded the rich linguistic diversity of India. “Superficial praise for Tamil in Tamil Nadu, alongside imperialist pro-Hindi statements from North India, exposes BJP's double standards. Tamil Nadu has a history of resisting Hindi imposition, and it will firmly reject all the autocratic moves of fascists,” he said.

South Indian sir, you are unnecessarily creating a narrative that someone wants to impose Hindi whereas our respected Prime minister Modi ji has given huge respect towards Tamil language as our treasure, our heritage and our identity. But don't worry Stalin, people of Tamil Nadu are silently learning Hindi. What is laughable is after saying such things you want to become the prime minister! Fortunately you are loosing ground in TN. Also, when everything is going wrong for your party, you take up this issue. If you want Tamil to be respected outside Tamil Nadu, as a Tamilian, I would say learn to respect Hindi. Learn from PM Modi - who is giving due respect to Tamil (even though I don't agree with his statement that Tamil is the oldest langauge - Sanskrit is).
