I am sharing my personal experience of 3 countries and my interaction with them.

USA - Indians are very much respected in US only because of the fact, India have produced great engineers and doctors and they could witness it themselves. Apart from that they had only limited knowledge about India. Below are some:

美国—印度人在美国地位很高，因为印度培养了优秀的工程师和医生，美国人有目共睹。除此之外，美国人对印度的了解并不多，比如：

Lot of doctors and engineers

Living with parents

Arranged marriages

Festivals - Holi and Diwali

Spicy food

Indians play a game similar to baseball

节日众多—比如胡里节和排灯节

食物很辣

有一种运动和棒球类似

Though they respect Indians, but after telling them how diversified Indian culture is and telling them about our neighboring countries their respect grew.

Somewhere I also felt, their respect (not all but few) also comes because of some strict laws their government has enforced regarding equal rights and against racism. No one really want to get into trouble.

虽然他们尊重印度人，但我跟他们介绍了印度文化的丰富多样性，并介绍了我们的邻国后，他们对印度更加尊重了。

我觉得他们表现出来的尊重(少数人，并非所有人)源于他们的政府在平等权利和反种族主义方面的严格法律。大家都不想惹麻烦

Thailand - I could say only as a tourist, Indians are not much respected here. May be because of the behavior which I also saw from some fellow Indians and was really ashamed:

No discipline at airports, you are cutting the lines so that you can quickly go through the immigration and customs. I could see an airline crew member shouting at Indians because of this behavior.

泰国—我只能说，作为游客，印度人在泰国不太受尊重。一些印度同胞的所作所为让我觉得很羞愧：

在机场不守纪律，随意插队，这样你就可以快速通过海关。我看到过机组人员大声指责印度人的这种行为。

You can bargain on a price but not to 80% or 90% of the price the shopkeeper asked. He literally blasted an Indian for bargaining so much.

This one is a shame. An old Indian probably in high 40's asking a young sales girl in a shop for her phone number. She denied and he kept insisting for the number until she shouted at him. Even after that, he kept smiling and then left.

May be because of the above things, I could sense the difference in treatment with Indians and other foreigners. Also, not the fault of Indians, since the western countries found these places very cheap, they tend to spend more money then Indians and in turn they get more attention and respect from the locals.

你可以砍价，但不能砍到80%或90%。店主因为印度人砍价大声咒骂。

还有个让人没眼看的。一个40多岁的印度老人跟商店里的年轻女售货员索要电话号码。女孩拒绝了，他一直缠着女孩，直到女孩大声抗议。那个印度老人还一直保持微笑，后来才离开现场。

因为上述原因，我发现泰国人对印度人和其他外国人的态度差异。但是这也不是印度人的错，因为西方人觉得这些地方的物价非常便宜，比印度人更舍得花钱，所以他们可以获得当地人更多的关注和尊重。

UAE - Though Dubai is well built and I loved my vacation there but people there are fake. I could see Indians were very much disciplined in the country but I could see the clear difference in treatment of Indians and other foreign tourists.

Guards at the metro station started talking rudely if you ask for directions.

You are roaming in a mall and restaurants are inviting only western countries tourist, if an Indian pass by the restaurant they just turn away and look on the other side.

You are standing in a shop but no one bothers to help or ask what do we need. They are busy in entertaining other foreigners.

I am sitting in a restaurant and the lady takes order as if I am not going to pay and she is doing a favor on us. Same lady smiled continuously when she was taking order on other table.

阿联酋—虽然迪拜的建设十分现代堂皇，我喜欢去迪拜度假，但那里的人太虚伪了。印度人在迪拜很守纪律，但印度人和其他外国游客在待遇上还是存在明显的区别。

如果印度人问路，地铁站的保安的态度会很粗鲁。

购物中心的餐厅只会招揽西方游客，如果印度人经过餐厅门口，餐厅工作人员会转过身去，看向另一边。

你走进一家商店，但不会有人主动过来，询问我们需要什么。他们都忙着招待其他外国人。

我在餐厅里点菜，服务员觉得我想吃霸王餐，她是屈尊为我们服务。而为另一桌点菜的服务员一直笑脸盈盈。

Again, western countries tourist getting all the attention and Indians were mere travelers wondering where they are. I know many Indians working at a good position and company in Dubai but during my 5 days stay, all I could see, Indians working at supermarkets, bus drivers, security guards, small hotel managers. Many of them selling fake I phone 7, branded handbags and jewelry. Not sure if this is the reason, Indians are not treated fairly.

西方国家的游客获得了所有人的关注，印度人只是游客而已。我知道很多印度人在迪拜工作，有着不错的职位和工作单位，但我在迪拜的那5天里看到的印度人都是超市员工、公交车司机、保安和小酒店的经理。他们中有很多人会兜售假冒的I phone7、名牌手袋和珠宝。不知道印度人地位低是不是因为这个原因。

Based on my experience, I could see that Indians are respected out of their education and there are few countries who do not even have an idea what is India all about.

We still do not have a stature that most western countries people enjoy while visiting an alien country.

根据我的经验，印度人会因为他们的学历受到尊重，大家都多少听说过印度。

但印度人不像多数西方人，可以在陌生国度享受到那种尊贵体验。

Here are my personal experiences :

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

说是也对，说不是也对。

以下是我的个人经历：

Experience 1 :

I was on a trip to the US with my family on a vacation and we were in Los Angeles near the Hollywood area in the morning at 9:O0AM when a friendly stranger passing by approaches us as and knew we were tourists and asked if we were from India and I said “yes” and he praised so much about India, and how he loves chicken tikka masala and that he would love to visit India sometime and also helped us a lot with what places to visit, where can we get Indian food and also offered us his business card incase we find any difficulties to contact him as he would be happy to help.

经历一：

我和家人去美国度假，上午9点到达洛杉矶好莱坞附近，一个友善的路人上前搭讪，他知道我们是游客，问我们是不是来自印度，我说“没错”，他就对着我们大夸特夸起印度，还说他喜欢蒂卡马萨拉烤鸡，他很想去印度看看。他还跟我们推荐了很多经典，告诉我们可以在哪里吃到印度菜，甚至还把名片给了我们，让我们遇到困难时就联系他，他很乐意帮助我们。

Experience 2 :

We were checking in at the Hampton inn in Chicago , USA when a man approached me and said “namaste” ( hello) to us in a weird way that shocked and scared us at first as we didn't understand what he said and a second later we realised what he said and I smiled and he spoke a few lines in Hindi which impressed us

经历二：

我们在美国芝加哥的汉普顿酒店登记入住时，一个男人走近我，用奇怪的腔调对我们说“namaste”(你好)，一开始我们没听懂，所以被吓到了，但一秒钟后我们就反应过来他说了什么，我笑了，他继续说了几句印地语，给我们留下了深刻的印象。

Experience 3 :

We were in an Uber heading to an Ethiopian restaurant in Chicago, USA and when the driver got to know we were from India, he told me about how he practises spirituality and meditation and follows a lot of yoga by Sadhguru ji and wishes to save enough money to visit India sometime.

经历三：

我们搭优步前往芝加哥的埃塞俄比亚餐厅用餐，当司机知道我们来自印度时，他就说起他如何练习灵性和冥想，经常参加萨古鲁瑜伽活动，希望能存到足够的钱，有朝一日去印度旅游。

EGYPT

Experience 4 :

The people of Egypt are extremely hospitable ,friendly and a lot of strangers when they see you they say india ,Shahrukh khan ,Amitabh Bachchan etc and they love our indian movies as well! Also with the number of Indians travelling to Egypt over the past few years , they have begun to serve indian cuisine/vegetarian food as well which shows how much they value Indians and are ready to accommodate them.

MOROCCO

While travelling through Marrakesh, the general perspective of indians seemed to be alright, but that’s due to the high number of NRI’s from UK, Europe etc who come to Morocco for their vacation and create a good image of us Indians over there.

我在马拉喀什旅行时，当地人对印度人的态度还不错，不过这是因为有很多英国、欧洲等国的印度裔到摩洛哥度假，给印度人刷了一波好感。

Chit Dubey

Two experiences I had outside India, which I would like to share here and may answer this question:

我想分享我在印度境外经历过的两件事，或许可以回答你这个问题：

Spain: When I was working in Madrid, one of my Spanish colleagues told me:

'Chit, when I was growing in the 60s and not eating food. My mother used to say me, "There are kids in India who can't afford food, so please finish it." And today we see India as an emerging global power, and you guys are doing great in many fields. Things change in life with time, and in coming years India will be a great power.'

西班牙：我在马德里工作时，一个西班牙同事告诉我：

“我是60年代人，挑食不吃饭。我母亲就对我说：印度的孩子们都没饭吃呢，你可得好好吃饭。今天，我们觉得印度是一个新兴的全球大国，你们在许多领域都表现出众。随着时间的推移，生活会发生变化，再过几年，印度会发展成一个大国。”

UK: I was enjoying live Music in a pub, and there I met three British girls. Two of them had just returned from India, and they said:

'We enjoyed your country. India has been in the news a lot recently.'

On this, I questioned them, 'For good reasons or bad reasons?'

'Of course for right reasons. You guys are doing good.' She immediately replied with a laugh.

Obviously it is improving.

英国：我在一家酒吧听现场乐队演奏，遇到了三个英国女孩，其中两人刚从印度回来，她们说：

“我们很喜欢印度。印度最近经常见报。”

我就问：“是好事还是坏事？”

“当然是好事了。你们印度很不错。”她立刻笑着回答。

所以，印度明显是在往好的方向发展。

Mahadevan Nurani Shivasubramanyam

In Germany and Netherlands the opinion is usually as follows:

a) People at stores, drivers - Indians are hardworking and only mind their own business. You only see them in Metro and going to work.

b) Colleagues and Clients: Smart and hardworking guys.

在德国和荷兰，人们往往认为：

I have had a ,rather sour experience on Facebook.

There was a post on “UNILAD” page, narrating the racist experience, a person(non-Indian) had while on his trip to Australlia.

He told that he was racially discriminated at many palces there and finally tagged the aussies as ‘beer drinkers and racist'.

我在Facebook上遇到过很不舒服的经历。

在”UNILAD”页面上有一个帖子，说一个人(非印度人)在澳大利亚旅行时经历了种族主义歧视。

他说自己在澳大利亚很多地方都遭遇了种族歧视，最后给澳大利亚人贴上了”啤酒爱好者和种族主义者”的标签。

What I saw was a long list of accusations and counter points to prove that ‘not all aussies' are racist.

Now, in some dark corner of the comments section I saw that an Indian national living in Australlia had narrated a similar experience. To my utter surprise, a Taiwanese national replied to his comment and I quote “ I prefer an Australlian racist over Indian rapist any day”.

What are the odds of a Taiwanese national replying to an Indian in comments of a post that was discussing discrimination by aussies against a foreign national.(huh…)

我看到了一长串的指责和反驳，试图证明”并非所有澳大利亚人”都是种族主义者。

我在评论区的某个隐秘角落看到了一位居住在澳大利亚的印度人也讲述了类似的经历。令我大吃一惊的是，一个台湾人回复了他的评论”对比印度强奸犯，我更喜欢澳大利亚种族主义者。”

在一篇讨论澳洲人歧视外国人的帖子中，居然也能看到台湾人回复印度人！

Dhedhad

Ya it's improving day by day as more indian faces are creating strong remarks on the international platform. The foreigners have mixed views about Indian race. Because of our dependent nature & low economical background; the foreigners have some prerequisite while doing business with us so it's a little harder for an indian get transanctional with a foreign prospect while it's much easier for other prosperous countries.

是的，越来越多的印度人在国际平台上发言，印度的形象越来越好了。外国人对印度族裔的看法褒贬不一。因为我们习惯依赖别人，经济基础较差；外国人跟我们做生意难免万事开头难，他们和其他发达国家做生意要更简单些。
