Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has big plans to redevelop Mumbai’s largest slum area made famous in the 2008 Oscar-wng film Slumdog Millionaire. Residents, however, are opposed to the ambitious US$3 billion redevelopment plan, which they say lacks clarity. They are also worried the project would result in a loss of livelihood.

The issue is people live and operate business from the same place, plus there is no safety standards and living conditions are very poor. At the end the cost of living is very low because of above reasons. Once it’s developed based on current house area they will get either House or Shop and in some cases both if house was very big.

Also once the area is developed it will come under government scanner where they will need to maintain certain regulations which they are not doing now.

To sum up most of the business would get shut or start making less profit and cost of living will increase for them

Living in slums is cheaper as compared to towers and big housing societies in mumbai. If the area gets redeveloped cost of living will increase.. many places in mumbai ( small towns and villages) are against redevelopment to be able to continue living in mumbai in cheap price… in 2023, every big project is government verified so adani is not going to steal their money

If you are not progressing, change ur environment. If people are given a chance to relocate in a better place, I think it is the best option. Anyway, India’s space agency has made it to the dark side of moon. I find it ironic though with all these socio economic upheaval happening in this slum area

I find it really shocking that somehow China and India (with similar population) are just so strikingly in contrasting. On one hand they have an abundance of unoccupied buildings (ghost cities is what some people calls it). In fact a few thousand of those cities already. On the other hand in India there is hardly any buildings and is filled sIums everywhere with no toIiets.
