The root word Bha means Knowledge and rathi means lover. So etymologically, the word Bharat means "the lover of knowledge". The names, Hindu , Sindu , Hindustan, India were used as synonymous names during various period. But the Word Bharat was in use right from Vedic period to till date.

The confusion will be reduced significantly if we call these changes as "reverting to the original /native name" rather than calling it "renaming".

I am absolutely in favor of this reverting because when I talk in my mother tongue we always refer to our country as Bharat and not as India.

But our country is much more than the Northwest and this was understood by the writers of the Constitution. i think the reason behind renaming the country will be explained by the authority who changed this name from india to BHARAT. but now from the outside and after listening to your demonstration it is understood that the word BHARAT was included in our constitution . so it is quite meaningful . in our old famous novel ramayana and mahabharata , they always used the name bharat . so it is over there ,and so it is quite purposeful to use the name bharat, and one more reason will be to change colonial mindset and it will obviously boost our confident so it is quite relatable .
