7 dead, over 40 injured in massive building fire in Mumbai's Goregaon West

MUMBAI: At least seven people have been killed while 44 others suffered injuries after a level-2 fire broke out in a ground plus seven-storey building in Mumbai's Goregaon West at 3.05am on Friday.

孟买：周五凌晨3点05分，孟买戈雷加奥恩西区一幢7层建筑发生二级火灾，造成至少7人死亡，44人受伤。

Five of the injured are said to be critical.

据称，五名伤者伤势严重。

According to a resident of the building, the fire started from the parking area on the ground floor.

The injured were rushed to HBT Trauma Hospital and Cooper Hospital.

According to fire brigade officials, the fire broke out in Jai Bhavani building located on MG Road in Goregaon.

Eight fire engines, five jumbo water tankers, one turn table ladder, and an ambulance were rushed to the spot.

The fire spread through the shops on the ground floor and the vehicles that were parked on the ground floor.

Maharashtra govt announces ex-gratia

"I am continuously talking with the municipal commissioner and police. What happened is unfortunate. I express my condolences to those who died. The government will provide monetary help of Rs 5 lakh to their families. Those who are injured will be given treatment by the government," said Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishing speedy recovery to the injured ones,” he wrote on X.

 It is not that easy to manage things in all respect. It`s in fact becomes duty of the residents too to be responsible and careful enough to see they take due care while using their amenities ,using electric appliances ,using lifts, etc.etc. Mumbai is a city where thousands and thousands of buildings of numerous floors do exst so there ought to be mismanagement to some extent . Residents living in multistoried buildings must therefore cooperate with MCD and other Govt departments in smooth management of day to day routine in their own interest and their neighbors etc.

Unfortunate. But, every day so many multistorey buildings are being constructed without proper firefighting access or facilities. No body is trained on firefighting and no body maintains the equipment systematically. Accidents like this are bound to increase. And our corrupt Govt officers, politicians and selfish citizens together are responsible for this pathetic condition.
