Is it true when Pakistanis go abroad they claim they are Indians?

I had a rather strange experience with a Pakistani in Sweden.
I went to a night club with my local friend. I found a guy with wheatish complexon trying to hit on girls. I overheard that he introduced himself as Vicky from Mumbai to girls. I bumped into him while coming out of washroom. Greeted him and introduced myself and told him I was from India, to my surprise he introduced himself as Waqar from FATA, Pakistan. I asked him was he not Vicky. He said no.
He replied, “All girls will run away, if I told them that I am from Pakistan.”

Oh yes, they do ! I was visiting London and went into a small eatery around London Eye. The guy there started speaking in Hindi with us and was selling wraps / rolls. He made us one that we asked for and there were several other customers (from different countries). He was happily saying this is Indian flat bread made of wheat(Chapati ) to the visitors and claimed it is a specialty from his country. Many menu items listed out had the name ‘India’ in it.
The crowd reduced and he sold us ‘Indian Chai’ also :) We were walking out of the eatery and a family came in for lunch. By their attire, we could recognize them as Muslims. The guy at the counter suddenly changed his accent, rather language and started socializing with them. He asked where were they from and they said Lahore. He said I am from Rawalpindi and continued talking :)
We were amazed by his skills and thought he is using the name of India everywhere and he is from our neighboring country !

Yes true.
In 2014, I was on a business trip in Barcelona and was looking for beer at around 11:30 pm. Shops were closed and I sat on a bench outside my Hotel and was smoking. A man in his 50s came and sat next to me. He asked (in Hindi) me whether I wanted weed. I said no, but I wanted beer.
He quickly went to one of his friends next street and got me 2 cans (he did not charge me extra).
I asked whether he is from Pakistan (because I knew there are many Pakistanis in Barcelona. They own super markets and some of them do petty businesses) He said no and he is from India.
Me: Oh great, from where in India?
He: Punjab
Me: Where in Punjab?
He: (Started thinking)
Me: What's your name?
He: (after clearing his throat) Raja Singh
Me: Who is CM of Punjab now?
He: I don't know it's been 10 years since I am in Spain
Me: okay, thank you for the beer. ‘Good night'
I don't know why, but many Pakistanis claim they are Indian while in abroad

It is true, and I have experienced it in Canada.
The first time you ask a wheatish guy, from where does he come?
He replies, “From India”. When you ask, which part of India, he reluctantly says, “From Pakistan”. I guess that the Pakistanis find themselves ashamed to reveal their identity esp after 9/11, which saw their reputation being destroyed.
On the other hand, Indians have over years built a great reputation as hard working, highly-qualified, highly intelligent bunch.
Since Indians and Pakistani look alike, the Pakistanis try to hide their identity as Pakistani and try to cash in the Indian repute.

Right in the middle of central London, there is a restaurant named Bangalore Express. If you’re a homesick tourist and a vegetarian, the first thing you do is find Indian Restaurants. It’s not the easiest task in mainland Europe but in England, it’s very very easy.
It’s a nice cute place and eating there is a lot like you’re eating and sharing food in an Indian Train. Bollywood music was playing as well. They had everything ranging from Paneer Tikka, Palak Paneer, Aloo Matar, Dosa (ultimate love <3) and even pineapple Raita. I was way beyond impressed by the variety and it literally smelt like any restaurant in India. There were a lot of British people eating Dosa with a fork which was just very foreign to me. But hey, I was in a foreign country to start of with. My mouth was salivating and i ordered plenty of food. When we started chatting with the waiter, he politely told us that he is from our estranged twin, Pakistan and this restaurant was owned by a Pakistani chef. I was happy. The food was delicious. Just thinking about it makes me salivate again.
Oh yes, he had a restaurant with a very Indian sounding name but I guess it’s because Indian food is more widely known. This was just one incident in London. We had a similar incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where another Indian Restaurant named Bombay Masala was run by a Pakistani couple. I haven't really come across any incident where Pakistani people say they are Indians except in case of restaurants.

Here in Belgium, Charleroi.. we have a restaurant named “Bombay Restaurant” with photo of Taj Mahal in it. The play bollywood songs all the time.
I got friendly with the owner, waiter and other staff and they told me that they are from Pakistan. They told me that they kept the name as Bombay Restaurant as people from other countries as well recognizes this name easily and assume that food will be good.
They are nice people and food is good as well, if not great.

There is a restaurant in Swindon - Wiltshire named Biplob.
They claim that it is an Indian restaurant. But in reality they are Bangladeshi. I went there once and tried to communicate with them in Hindi but failed.
I finished my food and one of the waiter was staring at me as he was waiting for me to finish my meal. As soon as I finished my meal, he put the bill as he was politely asking me to leave the restaurant.
Verdict, yes on the name of India many people are running their businesses.
Edit: Based on the people’s reaction, I would clear one thing, that there is no harm in running an Indian restaurant by other communities but they should treat the customer in a best possible way. My problem was not the poppadom and bhatoora but the behavior of the waiter, as that felt me insulted.

I’m an Indian, living in Europe. Thanks to my typical Asian looks! Everytime I come across a new foreigner friend, they ask me : ‘Where are your from? Pakistan or India?’. I tell them I’m from India, proudly. Many Pakistani’s who live abroad, especially US or Europe also must have encountered similar issues.
I got classmates from Pakistan. They are proud to say that they are from Pakistan. I have quite often noticed the way their eyes lit up when they mention about their economic/technological growth(yes, even I never thought Pakistan would grow after all the Terrorist mess). All of my Pakistani classmates are hel and kind. Also they are IIT level geeks; smart and intelligent.
I don’t think all men would prefer to win a fake nationality. We are proud to say that we are from India. Aren’t we? Likewise, I personally belive that a genuine person would never put one’s home country down. No matter what the history or past of that country is!

Yes.
Even there are many restaurants by the name of India which are not run by Indians. We have been in one such restaurant(Indian Jewel) in Prague where we could easily figure it out by the staff’s accent and attire.
It makes my belief in Karma more strong because of the fact that the people who criticise India in every possible way are dependent on the same India for their livelihood.

This is true to some extent. Main reason for this is the current political situations of the Muslim world. I have heard friends saying that Indian Muslims are still bearable in the US and EU but Pakistani Muslims are looked at with suspicion mostly. And lets face it, the blame lies totally on Pakistani people to have conceived this reputation for themselves.
