I prefer Japanese food because it is light and healthy, and I find the flavors to be more delicate and balanced. Japanese cuisine also offers a wide variety of dishes, from sushi to tempura, and I enjoy trying different types of food.

Chinese. As someone who grew up with seasoned foods and spices, Japanese food is often severely lacking in these. Their food is often bland or relies on sauces. Even their soy sauce tends to be overly salty without refined taste.
Japanese food closely resembles European and American food in many ways.
From a sense of variety, Chinese food is better. Food in Sichuan is nothing like food in Guangzhou for instance. China is bigger and it had access to more ingredients and spices.

This question doesn’t seem fair for the Japanese, because the so-called “Chinese” cuisine is itself made up of Eight Culinary Cuisine Traditions, or Sixteen Traditions if you expand it even more. That’s not even counting imperial cuisine (宫廷菜), aristocrat cuisine (官府菜), and religious cuisines (Hui, Buddhist, Taoist).
While Japanese alone makes for a great cuisine, it is more comparable to, say, Cantonese or Shanghainese than the cuisine of all of China combined, as that’d be like comparing Turkish cuisine to what the entire European continent has to offer.

I like Chinese and Japanese food but if I had to choose one only, I would prefer Japanese food because I am a huge fan of sushi, Hibachi, fresh Ramen and red bean ice cream. The flavor profile of teriyaki and ginger found in Japanese cuisine is absolutely perfect.

I’ve been exposed to more Chinese foods -Szechuan, Hunan, Cantonese. I am a fan of Szechuan - hot and spicy. My experience with Japanese food has been mostly Teriyaki and Sushi. I am a fan of neither. Fruit and Veg are as raw as I get, so no Sushi. California rolls are ok, but not good enough for me to go out of my way for them. Teriyaki looks better than it tastes to me.

Chinese cuisine, one of the important components of Chinese culture, also known as Chinese food culture, has a profound influence on East Asia. The characteristics of Chinese cuisine are summarized as: color, fragrance, taste, meaning and shape. It is called the five national dishes. .According to the cooking characteristics, it can be divided into four aspects: selection of ingredients, knife skills, heat and seasoning.
Japanese cuisine, literally means ´´to prepare the ingredients ´´, which means ´´cooking´´. When When it comes to Japanese cuisine, many people think of sushi, sashimi, or very exquisite display. Japanese cuisine is characterized by raw food, but it sacrifices the fragrance and flavor of the food. Chinese food presents the taste and nutrition of the food itself. The documents are collected from the Internet and are only used for personal learning. Chinese cuisine also pays attention to the selection of food materials:
Suitable for the season, suitable for the region, different varieties, different parts, fresh and tender, etc.

They’re both truly great and I do consider both as being among the world’s great cuisines (I would put Indian, French, and Italian in the list with Chinese and Japanese) for their influence on global cuisine, technique, presentation, ingredients… etc.
But personally I tend to prefer Japanese food overall. There’s a lot of Chinese dishes I love, so Japanese wins by a small margin. I think one thing I like about Japanese food is how the dishes’ flavours tend to blend in your mouth while you eat it, rather than already being blended in the dish. I find this makes a more interesting eating experience. I also like Japanese style presentation a little more.

I love Japanese , sushi is my fav. To me seems more natural ingredients and fresh. Also just like seafood anyway I grew up with seafood ahhh

Depends on the day.
there are healthy Chinese food and unhealthy Japanese food.
sometimes my taste buds do crave for a richer flavor and other times something clean would work better

Neither and both. It depends on the preferences of the person eating the food. Both cultures have amazing cuisine, but different. Different, not better.

“like this” does not mean “don’t like that”. “like the cuisine offered in this restaurant” does not mean “like the same cuisine offered in another one”.
I like Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura, Takoyaki, Gyūdon, Katsudon, Unadon, Ramen, Udon, Oden, Sukiyaki…
I also like Beggar's Chicken, Salted Duck, Dazhu gansi, Teriyaki eel, Crab dumpling, West Lake Fish, Dongpo pork, Longing prawns, Mapo doufu, Kung Pao chicken, Fuqi feipian, Laziji, Yuxang shredded pork, Fish in hot chilli, Fish with suan cai, Mao Xue Wang, Roasted suckling pig, White cut chicken, Cha siu bao, Dim sum, Beef noodle soup, Hot pot, Shaokao, Malatang, Shengjian mantou, Jianbing guozi…
“What I prefer” only depends on the skill of the chef.

Chinese, and for a simple reason.
Japanese food was considered terrible before they became rich.
That’s right. Sushi, Udon, Ramen, etc. They were all considered garbage tier foods when Japan was poor. It was only when they had their economic boom in the 80s that all of a sudden Japanese food was seen as good. Rather than calling waste for what it is (seriously? Open a Japanese package. It’s like 3 different boxes and 5 different ribbon coverings) all of a sudden it became “fine art”, “precision”, “being civilized.”
But Chinese food is different. Chinese restaurants were pop up everywhere even in the 70s and 80s, when China was dirt poor. Chinese food was being accepted everywhere even when China was worse off than Sub-Saharan Africa.
Chinese food was considered good even when they were poor.
To me, this is a clear sign that the food is actually good. Not just being rationalized off.
And also, I have never eaten at a Japanese restaurant without getting sick. Also pisses me off that it costs over $125 a meal too, while I can be healthy, full, and happy for just a tenth of that price at Chinese restaurants.

I like both Chinese and Japanese food, but I prefer Chinese over Japanese because I've eaten and I'm familiar with more Chinese dishes than Japanese ones. I know that I don't care for squid and I know that wasabi peas are too spicy for me! I'll stick with egg rolls, moo goo gai pan, sweet n sour pork/ chicken, and egg drop soup.

I love both. Distinctively not the same, even the soya sauce is different.
Chinese foods are nice and warm.
Japanese foods are nice in both cold and warm.

As a Chinese growing up in Singapore, and living in many SEAsian cities and in Toronto, I am open to many kind of cultural food.
I love Japanese once a while, and as for Chinese Food (I mean real PRC food, and not those fake American Chinese Food), Me and my family are ok with them, but we will prefer our SEAsian taste, of Indian, Malay, and Thai Food more, and even the Chinese food I Singapore and Malaysia has a special place in the heart of my family.

I can have either one and enjoy it just as much. For example Sushi is one of my favourite foods and I can have it anytime. Due to my personal dietary restrictions I can only have a few Chinese dishes but with Japanese cuisine I have more of a choice available.

At the moment, I think I prefer Chinese food, but that might be because I’ve been exposed to more of it. Japanese food can be a little bland. Really, any cuisine is good if the cook is a good one.
The food in most Chinese restaurants in the US is not very good. Too much cornstarch, too much sugar, too much oil. Lots of canned or frozen ingredients. Even the more authentic ones like to keep the fish in tanks, and it ends up tasting a bit like fish tank. Sort of an algae aftertaste. And I hate those tiny ears of corn and the overuse of bell peppers.
On the other hand, good Chinese food is really good. And there’s a lot of it! China is huge! You can cook it yourself. Basic Chinese cooking is not difficult.
