NEW DELHI: India has surpassed China as the most represented higher education system in Asia with 148 featured universities, 37 more than last year. Mainland China with 133 universities is second and Japan with 96 the third highest represented in the latest QS World University Rankings for Asia.

IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi are among the top 50, while there are five other Indian institutions in top 100.

A total of 856 institutions from 25 countries have been listed in the rankings released on Wednesday.IIT- Bombay leads nationally in both QS's academic and employer reputation indicators, drawing on the expert opinion of over 1.4 lakh academics and employers. It ranks within the top 20 Asian institutions for employer reputation.

Some of the highlights for Indian universities based on key indicators are outstanding level of research output by volume; overall stability with around 50% of the ranked universities being either stable or having improved; highly trained faculty; and significant improvement for specific institutions even while they lag behind peers in internationalisation indicators.

周三公布的排名中，共有来自25个国家的856所院校上榜。IT-孟买在QS的学术和雇主声誉指标方面均居全国领先地位，这得益于140多万学者和雇主的专家意见。它在亚洲雇主声誉排名前20位。

Forget China. Compare within. Some of the degrees in autonomous universities are paid degrees. Quality of education is important than quantity. Only One lakh out of 4 lakh graduates in engineering are eligible for employment without any training. Universities and educational system must Concentrate on quality and employable education.

Without listing the criterion for preparation of this QS list, it is not possible to rely on its credibility or lack of it. Indian universities can figure at the top if the government ensures only merit for admissions and employment in all educational institutions!
