Are poor peasants illiterate in China? How come China was a nation of peasants with an annual income of $200 dollars in the 19th-20th century? How can peasants live off $200 a year in China?

The literacy rate in China is over 99%. China has always honored education. Ever since the days of Confucius, any boy with a will could learn and rise to the highest ranks of government, no matter how poor or humble his background. Girls could learn, usually in wealthy families, but were not allowed to take the imperial examinations established in the Han.
Compare this to India, ridden by the caste structure, where even if Dalit are brilliant and excel in their studies, their future is still limited. This has become a problem in high tech companies in the US. India has a literacy rate of only about 77%.

No, in 2021, the poorest 20% of the population had a monthly income of $90. It means $1080 a year.
And in rural areas, people do not need to spend on food and fuel because they can get it from their farmland. Outpatient fees are less than $1, blood tests are priced at around $3 to $4, CT scans are not more than $10, and medical appointments in China are not required. Even in rural areas, we have a high population density, and people do not need to pay for fuel to go to places where they can shop. During the compulsory education stage, families hardly need any expenses. Children from impoverished families are almost certain to receive scholarships in higher education. Therefore, the per capita monthly income of $90 is only used to purchase non food necessities, such as electricity and telephone expenses etc. And the impoverished population can receive additional government subsidies.

The poorest and most illiterate peasants in China have higher IQ than your beggar parents……
Obviously.

Several major western countries and Japan invaded China in unison. They stole everything they could take home and burned whatever they couldn't take home. They also force fed the Chinese people with opium.
Now those countries are paying their bad karma.
And this is today's China.

Don't worry about China in the past, but worry about the US today.

China was weak and backward during the 19–20 Century due to the following factors. Weakness of the Qing Dynasty led to a lack of political stability. Its isolationist policies prevented it from taking advantage of foreign trade and Western technological advancements. Civil wars and internal strife further hampered its progress. The lack of a modern education system also contributed, meaning that the majority of the population were illiterate peasants and relied on agricultural production.
Hence for most of 19-20 century China’s per capita income was very low, at $200, and close to 90% of the population lived in poverty and on less than $1 dollar a day.

Yes, you can live on $200 a year in the rural area in China, China is cheap.
But China is prosperous now, it started from nothing to prosperous and one of the most powerful countries.
US was extremely poor with no treasury and no money, but it became wealthy and powerful, should US be shamed of its humble origin? 100–200 years ago, US was not in great shape, not to mention 600,000 Americans died in the Civil War.
There is no shame in humble begng, in fact, it is an honor, pride and joy to made it on your own, it is to be respected.

Does this data from the internet indicate what kind of USD they are talking about? Is it the current USD of January 2022 or the USD from 1990 or perhaps the USD from 1950?
For reference a Ford Model T would cost you around 850 dollars in the 1920s, less than the monthly US minimum wage today but almost a years worth of disposable income back then.

Why is it, Jain Patel, that you constantly produce these kinds of trash questions? I’ve literally answered this question before:
So ya know what, I’m not going to answer it for a second time. Instead I’m going to have to insist that you do a few things instead.
Jain Patel
First off, how about providing a source for what you claim? If you cannot do that, then you are full of BS.
Second, how about you provide a date (or a narrower range of dates)? If you cannot narrow it down to less than two hundred years, then you are full of BS.
Third, how about you take a look in the mirror? You are trash-talking China, yet India, back in 1947–1948 had an average annual income of less than $70. Also, 82% of the population was illiterate. How can you sit here and trash-talk China when India was such a trashed country as well? Actually, considering your claim of $200/year, the average Chinese person was around 3x better off than the average Indian person!

Poverty is natural, wealth is artificial.
Don’t forget that the annual GDP per individual in the UK, which siphoned resources from around the world into just a single island, was a mere 41 pounds in 1900. The Bank of England’s inflation calculator estimates this to be 4142.93 pounds.
Wealth comes from a nation’s ability to produce items that can be traded for an insanely high amount of commodities. More colloquially, this is known as “trading a single Boeing jet for a million T-shirts.”
What happened during the 19th century was the rapid industrialization of Europe, which allowed them to build up the most powerful military that could cross the oceans that until then had posed an impassable barrier. These militaries were then able to conquer nearly the entire world and demand the conquered to provide free resources to the Europeans.
While outright conquest was no longer necessary after WWII, the former imperialist powers would continue to widen the gap by holding onto a monopoly over core military technologies. A single Boeing 747 (419.2 million USD) could be traded for 1.19 billion board feet of timber.
Poverty is natural, wealth is artificial.
And this was how the West artificially became wealthy.

They’d fallen into a period of bitter civil war. In 1600 they were living better and were reasonably powerful. By 1800 they were divided, much reduced in numbers and in wealth.
Imagine like the US civil war but it goes for 150 years instead of 4.

China was minding her own business in China when several western imperialist countries invaded China in unison, stole everything, destroyed whatever left and force fed the Chinese people with opium.
Tell that to the world.

This is true to a certain extent.
Peasants are the most miserable people in China.
Many Peasants/homesteaders have fields of less than an acre (666 square meters), which is not even as large as the yards of some Americans. With such a small area of land, it is often necessary to support a family (at least 4 people).
For those of us in our modern lives, it's hard to imagine this.
Moreover, these lands usually belonged to the landlords rather than the peasants themselves. Peasants usually have to pay 50% of the land harvest as rent.
In fact, now (2023) Chinese peasants/farmers are still low-income. In some areas of Hebei and Henan, the arable land owned by each person is even as low as 1-2 mu (1 mu = 666 square meters), which is far smaller than the courtyard of some wealthy people.

It was largely agricultural. Farmers don’t make that much in income, although that may not reflect their situation as they may be growing all their own food and not paying for it. Annual incomes always look lower in agricultural areas, as for states like Alabama and Mississippi.

Chinese farmers make up 50 percent of the Chinese. China's literacy rate is 97%
Probably except for peasants over 70 years old, none of them are illiterate.
