NEW DELHI: Qatar court has accepted India's appeal to study the death sentence handed down to eight-ex Indian Navy personnels it had arrested last year, Times Now reported on Friday.

The Qatar court had announced the death penalty for these Indians on October 26.

The ministry of external affairs had expressed shock over the verdict and had assured that the government was exploring all legal options.

In 2022, the authorities in Qatar detained eight retired Indian Navy soldiers working for a defense services provider company.

Since then, they have been held in solitary confinement without the Qatari authorities explaining the basis for their detention to the men's families.

据《泰晤士报》周五报道，卡塔尔法院受理了印度的上诉，要求对去年被捕的8名前印度海军人员的死刑进行复核。

10月26日，卡塔尔法院宣布将对这些印度人判处死刑。

印度外交部对这一判决表示震惊，并保证印度政府正寻求一切法律可能来解决这一事件。

2022年，卡塔尔当局拘留了为一家国防服务公司工作的8名退役印度海军士兵。

从那以后，他们一直被单独监禁，卡塔尔当局没有向他们的家人解释拘留理由。

External affairs minister S Jaishankar had, in October, met the families of the eight ex-Navy officers. He assured the families of full support and stressed that the government attaches highest importance to the case.

Jaishanar told the kin of the ex-Navy officers that the government will continue to make all efforts to secure eight Indians' release from Qatar.

外交部长苏杰生于今年10月会见了八名印度前海军军官的家属。他向家属保证会给予全力支持，并强调印度政府高度重视此案。

苏杰生称政府将继续尽一切努力，确保8名印度人从卡塔尔获释。

The sensitive nature of ties with Qatar may possibly also be a restraint. India has been working to further expand the relationship with Qatar, with focus on defence and security cooperation. PM Narendra Modi had visited Qatar, an important source of LNG , in 2016 and it was followed by other highlevel bilateral visits. Qatar is also home to 8 lakh Indian nationals who form the largest expatriate community in the country.

印度与卡塔尔的关系略显敏感，可能也是原因之一。印度一直在努力进一步扩大与卡塔尔的关系，重点是国防和安全合作。2016年，莫迪总理访问了液化天然气的重要来源卡塔尔，随后进行了其他高层双边访问。卡塔尔还是80万印度侨民的家园，是卡塔尔最大的外籍侨民社区。
