I am not sure what triggers these questions but let me try to answer.

Indians do not think that they are better than Chinese. They even appreciate what China has achieved in the last 3 - 4 decades.

Most of the Indians have never met a Chinese in person so they do not have an opinion at all.

The opinion on the China though, is not favorable at all. These sentiments arise from -

If you ask me personally ( I happen to be an Indian Citizen )i live in a place where i constantly interact with Mainland Chinese folk as well as Thai Chinese folk and we all respect each other even help each other ,i often take care of their pets and plants while they take care of my orchids while am away and tell me about the cheapest of places on the island where i can get a bang for my buck along with edicating me about their customs and traditions ,we do not enter into a pissing contest instead enjoy each others company ,they enjoy my bowl of poha, biryani, khicdi, kheer, barfi or sabudana khichdi just as much as i enjoy their prawn wonton soup ,mooncakes ,hokkien noodles and steamed baos and steamed sea bass with ginger ,corriander and scallions .When ever my family visits they always wish them too and vice versa .

I have never visited China but they tell me lovely stories about their land while they remain equally fascinated and curious about my own country Bharat. One of them The Chengs a retired senior couple with grown kids about my age who have settled in Bangkok and where run a chemical factory here in Thailand , originally from Chengdu province ,who i pet sit for very often were visiting Mumbai and my mom invited them over for lunch which they graciously accepted and thoroughly enjoyed .They being such gracious guests gifted my mother a Ganesha and my mother loaded them with Indian Sweets and Snacks that they could fly back home with .

This time the Chengs are visiting Singapore and i have told them if they have any trouble they can always contact my aunt and uncle who are more than happy to help and in the usual Shetty fashion they have been invited over by my uncle and aunt too ,although they Singaporean but very very Indian by ethnicity and culture .So it goes to show i and my family am out of the 140 crore indians you have not come across .I won't brag and say am a humble human am the type who is very wary ,but i am raised by my parents with values that teach me to be respectful and accepting sans passing any judgement or pre conceived notions ,letting my own guard down .If the person in front of me respects me it is my moral duty / Dharma to extend the exact same respect and love ,it is always a two way street in my case .

I think this question has ulterior motives. It could also be framed as “Why do many Chinese often think that they are better than the Indians, because their country has forged ahead of India in many ways? What makes them appreciate themselves while the Indians are usually humble and cautious when dealing with others? But it wasn’t. So, aren’t the motivations clear?

No one is better than anyone else in this world. But people have strengths and weaknesses. And those traits motivate them to do things.

Because they know very little about China. Or I would say they dont even bother about knowing more about China. They are always in fear. Fear of knowing too much will bring them undeniable truth that breaks their dream!

It is not uncommon for you and me to bump into such person in our life. It is hard to communicate with them because they deny anything that is not on their side. They lack confidence too much! We all know that confident people will always stay humble not the other way.

Nevertheless I would say such group of people exst in ever country or civilization. I believe there are humble Indians too who do not alwayas make false claim that Tamil is the oldest language in the world without endorsement from internationally recognized academic organizations.

It is appalling if one individual claims to be better or superior or more valuable than another, whether because of their ethnicity or nationality. The question does not even define whether this should refer to a higher moral standard or something else. I must admit, however, that I have no idea whether there are such people in India or China, and if so, how many. It would be a display of a certain degree of stupidity.
