In the eyes of the world India is still a colony of the west, especially with the recent events in ME and India not standing with the occupied. Countries are trying to get out of the shackles of the west so as long as they see India itself a colony, they will not trust it. China on the other hand, at least is seen as independent (even though it has its own interests) but at least is independent. Plain and simple.

Then you should ask yourself why? What have you done to make all your neighbors doing this? Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and now even Bhutan is resolving the border issue with China and getting closer to China. Also your far distance neighbors countries Iran and Afghanistan they too have very solid relationship with China and kee a distance away from you.
