The condition with India is somewhat peculiar in politics and diplomacy. India is backed by England and USA, who provide India with weapons and technology. This gives to the politicians and military of India “confidence”. When China built by herself Space technology. USA and England built for India a satelite and gave it to India to launch it so that India takes pride that has a “space program”, just like China… Such movements, give the elite classes of India and their military, the belief that USA and UK will be able to “help them” if anything occurs between their country and China… Of course they undersestimate the fact that China is a Superpower!

India is a country with very very poor population. This population does not care too much if they fall under foreign occupation. Their conditions are filthy like in case of the Cambodian population under the Khmer Rouge resigme… It was salvation for them when the Vietnamese army overun their country and abolished the tyranic Khmer resigme. So the same will be for the poor Hindu people of lower economic classes. It will be salvation for them if the Chinese army manages to overun their country and  who rob them and let them starve and suffer! They see the J-20 and any Chinese sophisticated weapon as a mean for their salvation!

Who said that they are not worried of Chinas J-20s. India is shitting its pants due to J-20 because if US considers J-20 a capable and big threat then it is a huge threat. IAF is currently fearing even J-10C let alone J-20. Let me tell you one thing. Indian government is like a kid who first messes with the powerful kids and then cry that the other kid beat him. India can never match the ariel capabilities of that of China and they know that. They are struggling to produce 4th gen Tejas and they claim to rival China. India currently has no solution to J-16s, J-10Cs and specially J-20s. India has a dozen or so of Rafales which can rival J-10C and even those are deployed near Pakistani borders. As of Su-30 MKI those are no match for Chinese flankers specially J-16s.

China has revealed little data and doesn’t participate in exercises with anyone, so there’s no exposure to external air forces to get any sort of real world prowess of the J-20. While it may be expected that Chinese tech is behind even the Russians, the Chinese economy is very strong and they military budget is massive, and with sustained money thrown at it, maybe the J-20 is more capable than thought to be, but only a real conflict will show the actual picture.

How is China’s J-20?

Sorry, I have to point out a fact:

There is no J-20 at all, or we say, the internal code for so-called J-20 is actually J-9I, which means improved version of J-9.

The history could be dated back to 1964, when China was facing threat of US B-1B. The Chinese Air Force (PLAAF) decided to develop a high-speed interceptor for defense. And the designed parameters were:

Max speed: 2.5 Mach

Combat radius: 2500 km

You can see how similar they are. And parameters of J-20 marginally meet the designed one for J-9 half a century ago.

So, how is J-20?

I have to declare that it’s not really a stealth fighter, since there is no concept of “stealth” in 1964 (Project F-22 started in the 1990s), and of course there is no stealth design in appearance. Even there could be improvement on J-20, it’s not possible to be qualified as a stealth one.

J-9 was of low weight (approx. 13t), and J-20 was not enlarged a lot. And it’s clear form picture that there is no weapon hanging point on the wing, which makes it pale in carrying weapons.

As a conclusion, I would comment J-20 as a “fake 5-generation jet” for the poor points in stealth, range and carriage. As for comparison to other fighters, I would say it’s better than J-10 and J-11, approx. equal to Mirage 2000 but not as good as F/A-18 E/F, F-15C, JAS-39 and LCA.
