I  visited India 10 years ago and it was a shock to my system - no offence, I love the culture, but the conditions of the roads and streets were beyond sadness. I had hoped this would have improved a lot since then? But sounds like India still has a lot of catching up to do in that regard.

In Singapore where I lived, you will be lucky to find a cigarette butt in the drain beside the walk paths. Partly education of public awareness and partly because of strict enforcement by punitive fines, it takes 30 years to clean up nationwide. That said, hygiene and facilities  in public toilets in China in first tier cities comparable to Singapore are superb and some are very high tech.
