KANPUR: Four persons, including a couple, were sentenced to life imprisonment on Saturday for killing a seven-year-old girl and eating her liver and other vital organs on November 14, 2020, at the behest of an occultist in Ghatampur area of Kanpur.

After the trial that lasted three years, additional district judge II POCSO Act Baquar Shamim Rizvi sentenced the accused couplem Parshuram and Sunaina, their nephew Ankul and his associate Viren, to life imprisonment.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 each on Ankul and Viren and Rs 20,000 each on Parshuram and Sunaina.

Assistant government district counsels Ram Rakshit Sharma, Pradeep Pandey and Ajay Kumar Tripathi said that a rThe court imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 each on Ankul and Viren and Rs 20,000 each on Parshuram and Sunainaesident of a village in Ghatampur had lodged a complaint that her seven-year-old daughter had gone missing while playing outside her house on November 14, 2020.

The next day, her mutilated body was found in a field outside the village. Police lodged an FIR against Parshuram, Sunaina, Ankul and Viren and launched an investigation. Cops came to know that Parshuram and Sunaina were childless even after 19 years of their marriage and had approached an occultist who asked them to consume the liver of a girl.

Ankul and Viren sexually assaulted the girl and then killed her. They extracted the girl's liver and gave it to Parshuram and Sunaina. After investigation, Ghatampur police filed a chargesheet in 37 days.

The court convicted all the four accused on Wednesday and pronounced the quantum of sentence on Saturday.

Additional district government counsel Pradeep Pandey said, "Killing an innocent child and taking out her liver and eating it is a barbaric crime.  Occult practice was the main reason behind the murder."

Very low punishments for such barbaric crimes. This should be tried in a court which rewards barbaric punishments as well. An innocent life lost to such a heinous crime.

Why only lifetime for these barbarians... they should be hanged to death! What's wrong with our laws, why sympathy to such criminals? What is deterrent for other such criminal souls out there? We need to have Capital Punishment for such crimes at least!!

Absolutely, courts are very sympathetic towards criminals. The judges have to understand that unless, death sentence is awarded for such barbaric acts, these criminals are not going to reform. Life sentence however, is very painful, but why to give acute pain to the criminals, just shoot them or hang them, if hangmen are available.
