Since Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s visit to China in January, the Philippines has had multiple maritime conflicts with China in the South China Sea. Marcos Jr. said that he wants a "paradigm shift" on the Philippines' approach to the region, but he has been following exactly what the old paradigm mapped out, intruding on China's interests to ingratiate the Philippines with the United States. During his visit to China in January, he said that when the elephants fight, the only one that loses is the grass. The Philippines is the grass. Grass picking fights with an elephant to appease the other elephant is irrational, and ignorant to the point of insanity.

In fact, you would prefer that all East and Southeast Asian nations are subservient to China. The U.S. is only hel out the Philippines because they asked for it. Without them asking, the U.S. wouldn’t care if China does what it wants in their EEZ. It’s not USA’s problem except for the fact that they have to guarantee their ally’s security. This is just one additional burden for the U.S. to shoulder, on top of Ukraine, and Israel, and Taiwan, and Kurds, and Sahel, and Somalia…the list is already so long without the Philippines

China has to be very careful with the Philippines & Marcos Jr though as he seems very very sneaky & untrustworthy, at least Zelensky looks pretty straightforward. Marcos Jr seems very sneaky, unpredictable & spineless. China just has to beware of backstabbing & double talk by him & the Filipino government! If China need the first island chain it should love the Philippines and be its ally militarily like the US. This issue which the root cause is China cannot resolve if China insist its territorial claim outside of its territorial boundary that is aligned with international order & law.
