BYD is competing in a different market, primarily Asia. Chinese-made Teslas are primarily exported. Both are competitors. This is good for the consumer. This needs to happen. This is how quality and price improve over time. We won't see BYD in the US. Nor will China see the Cybertruck. Different markets.

Nevertheless, BYD no doubt is going to be leading EV producer; Just that they have not established themselves as global player as Tesla yet. So, mostly selling in China. What is not mentioned here is the margin level of Tesla vehicle compared to BYD. I think BYD is still producing at a much lower margin. There's plenty of market for both of them to grow rapidly over the years and continue to take market share from ICE vehicles.

Companies like iaomi and Vivo which invested in India for over a decade, are the friends and wind of Indian Future. Yet, Indian governments, at central and local levels, ended up killing them with outrageous tax claims and even arrest for ransom. At the end, these companies that BELIEVE IN INDIA, have no choice but to leave. And no, Indians companies won't come in to fill the void. They just run the same old same mediocre companies with low quality products. Without the good competition from Chinese companies, Indian companies will just slack off.
Now of course, India should not let iaomi or Vivo run without constraint. But as long as they run a fair game, India shall let them be, and at the same time, supports Indian companies to compete head on. The right way to grow is not lock yourself in and pretend nothing is happening, but face the challenge and WELCOME the challenge.

Both Ford and GM invested in India for over two decades. After losing over $2B, they simply left India. Do you really think Elon Musk is not taking note? He is most likely talk about building a gigafactory in India, but settle for a small factory that mainly focus in putting the Make In India stamp on an imported Tesla car.
India market is IMPORTANT to Tesla as it fights hard to get more "markets" but be very clear, Indian EV car market is very small. The infrastructure is not there. There is only a VERY small number of EV car chaining stations out there. In comparison, USA has over 200K and expected the number reach 500K by 2030. And China, has over 2.2 MILLIONS charging stations. Almost all Chinese cities have majority of cars running on electricity. It is very hard to get a gas car license in Chinese cities. So it will be 100% EV cars in 10 years, as the gas cars are faded out.

More than 90% of BYD sales are in China where they have home ground advantage (all major Chinese companies are de facto owned by the chinese and get preferential treatment). China will soon become fully electric at which point BYD's growth will stagnate. BYD sales in Europe is pathetic, and sales in North America is non exstent.

Byd will not overtake tesla this quarter. Tesla production was less last quarter due to factory upgrades, they will more than compensate for it this quarter.

BYD isn't catching Tesla. First it is losing money. Second China allows "sales" to inculde sales to dealers, or sales that don't get delivered in the same year to be counted. You even have to define what a "car" is in China they count EVs that can't drive at highway speeds and have no airbags or 5mph bumpers "mini cars" In America we call them golf carts.

“Units sold” does not tell the whole story. You should consider the average price. On average, a single TESLA sales represents multiple BYD’s. Also, BYD makes hybrids, which sales they report as EV sales.

India is not a good global player in terms of foreign investors. Indians generally have the mindset of wanting to benefit from the global prosperity of others, it does not want others to come and benefit from the Indian market. Investors should be very careful.
