Hard work is characterized by the non stop work, lesser talk, and more quantity of work. But the Indian people are known for working like a brake and resting during the working schedule, much more talk, and the least quantity of work. The Indian work can’t be called ‘Smart Work’ rather ‘Lazy Work’.

Offshoring is a cost cutting technique of organizations. It's as old as human civilization. Think about the time you hire a local plumber or a carpenter for fixng your leaky tap or your broken furniture. You can do these things yourself if you have time, but the quality of the work would not be the same as an outsider doing it. And you would rather do better things with your time rather than fixng the tap or the furniture.

Just like how you “offload” or “offshore” your work to your plumber and carpenter and electrician, companies do the same.

Apple can conceptualize, design, procure, assemble, pack and deliver it's products entirely within America and in-house workforce and export it's phones. Similarly Bank of America can conceptualize, design , build, migrate and test it's new CRM system with its own in-house workforce.

And yet they don't do that. Why?. Because offloading the mundane work (assembly & packaging in manufacturing, testing & migration in services) requires not much which can generate value in their country whose wages are far above than what they can afford.

Similar to how you cannot “afford” to spend time fixng your bathroom and furniture, and you find greater value in offloading that piece to semi skilled labors, these companies do the same.

Indian middle class look at the term “low skilled labor” in a pejorative manner. Remember those companies did not become what they are without going through the “low skilled labor” phase 2 centuries back.

Low skilled labor does not mean you always slog hard for peanuts , but it means you are a crucial cog in the wheel which keeps the lights on (literally and figuratively).

However most organisations don't get this basic fact right and think that Indians or Fillipinos or Bangladeshis are competing only on cost which adds zero value to the chain. Even our policy makers fall for this fallacy. It's not the case.

Hard work or smart work- what matters is you are a critical component in the wheel which keeps the entire chain running. This means that the organization's need to have fair workers policy and compensation for all.

I am not a unionist. However with greater awareness, workers and employees are voicing out their concerns about the way they are treated by these companies. While there is great value in working hard in the initial stages of your career, it should not come at an unsustainable pace which ruins your next 3 decades of your professional career.

While people keep talking of automation and AI taking jobs, they don't realise that powerful governments are not sitting idle and there would be regulations in the same. People did not elect their PMs and Presidents only to see their jobs being eaten by machines.

They were used to Chinese workers who were ready to slog 9+2 hours a day for 6 days a week and deliver 63 Units a day at peak productivity

They came because they were promised the world

First, the workers cried about wages

They agreed initially and then cried. That's because the Agent was collecting 20% a month from their wages directly. So out of ₹14000/-, the workers saw a cut of ₹ 3000/- Wistron raised the wages to ₹17000/- to keep them happy

There is no doubt that the Chinese are hard working and smart working people. But the key difference is not in hard working/smart working people. Indians also work hard and work smart. However, India is a de ocracy. Unlike China, India can’t ensure forced labour for low wages and long hours. Key to China’s success was forced cheap labour and the swee power of the autocratic government to acquire land for industry.
