HYDERABAD: A 22-year-old youth from Telangana and three others from Karnataka's Kalaburagi - stranded in Russia along the war-torn Ukraine border-have sent an SOS with a plea that they should be immediately rescued from what seems to be a fake army job racket.

Mohammed Sufiyan, who hails from Narayanpet district in Telangana, in a video sent to his family was seen pleading, "Please save us. We are victims of a hi-tech fraud."

Sufiyan, in army uniform, said that they were being forced to fight in Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine much against their will. He said they were sent to Russia in Dec 2023 by recruiters with a promise that they would be working as army security helpers.

The four had their first engagement in Dubai with agents who promised a fat salary. After returning to India in Nov 2023 from Dubai, they were sent to Russia in Dec 2023. They boarded a flight from Chennai. They were all taken there on visitor visas.

四人是在迪拜受聘，中介承诺会给他们丰厚的薪水。在2023年11月从迪拜返回印度后，他们于2023年12月被送往俄罗斯。他们登上了从金奈起飞的飞机。他们都是持旅游签证被带到那里的。

The youth, who were earning Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 in Dubai, were promised salaries in the range of Rs 2 lakh by the agents, a source said. For the promised security personnel/helper jobs, the agents in Dubai took Rs 3.5 lakh each from the youth, a family member said.

Shocked families of the youths, who have been lured into taking up jobs in Russia, now suspect that they have been recruited into Wagner Group, a private army allegedly funded by Russian govt to fight on the frontline in Ukraine.

In addition to the four youths, another 60 youngsters from India were believed to have been allegedly drafted into the private army without their consent. Their signatures were allegedly taken on a contract paper written in Russian language. They were allegedly misled into taking up 'security personnel/helper' jobs in Russia by a man from Maharashtra, who runs a YouTube channel. A vlogger exposed the fraud being perpetrated on gullible youth.

Indian unemployed youth need jobs. They grab at any opportunity be it in India or abroad. I am sure had Russia offered them army jobs they would have gladly accepted them. Now, I hear that Israel too is offering jobs to Indians to work as handymen, and there is a stampede for it though we do not know for sure what jobs they will be doing there.
