NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 'Sudarshan Setu,' a cable-stayed bridge spanning 2.32 km over the Arabian Sea in Gujarat.

This remarkable infrastructure connects Beyt Dwarka island to the mainland in Okha, situated in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district.

The Sudarshan Setu, formerly known as the 'Signature Bridge,' is a four-lane cable-stayed bridge featuring a distinctive design.

Notably, its footpath is adorned with verses from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna. The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 979 crore, comprises a central double span cable-stayed portion of 900 meters and a 2.45 km long approach road.

With a width of 27.20 meters, the bridge includes 2.50-meter wide footpaths on each side. Previously referred to as the 'Signature Bridge,' it has been officially renamed 'Sudarshan Setu' or Sudarshan Bridge.

Beyt Dwarka, the island near Okha port, is approxmately 30 km from Dwarka town, housing the famous Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

The Sudarshan Setu holds immense significance for pilgrims, simplifying travel between Okha and Bet Dwarka. Prior to the bridge's construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach the Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt, Dwarka.
