ABU DHABI: A comment by Thailand's ambassador to WTO Pimchanok Vonkorpon Pitfield, accusing India of using 'subsidised' rice procured for the public distribution system for capturing the export market, has created a diplomatic storm with govt lodging a strong protest and Indian negotiators refusing to participate in some deliberations in groups where a representative from the southeast Asian country is present.

阿布扎比：泰国驻世贸组织大使皮姆查诺·冯可蓬·皮特菲尔德指责印度利用公共分配系统采购的“补贴”大米占领出口市场，这一评论引发了一场外交风暴，政府提出了强烈抗议，印度谈判代表拒绝参加有该东南亚国家代表出席的小组会议。

The Thai ambassador's comment on Tuesday during a consultation meeting was cheered by some representatives of rich nations, angering the Indian delegation here.

周二，泰国大使在一次磋商会议上的评论受到了一些富裕国家代表的欢呼，但激怒了印度代表团。

Thailand is seen to be fronting for the US, European Union, Canada and Australia, among others, which have blocked a permanent solution to public stockholding for over a decade.

泰国被视为美国、欧盟、加拿大和澳大利亚等国的挡箭牌，这些国家十多年来一直在阻挠公开库存量的永久解决方案。

Officials said a strong protest has been lodged with the Thai govt and commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal took up the matter with USTR Catherine Tai and EU executive vice-president Valdis Dombrovskis, making it clear that the language and behaviour were unacceptable.

官员们表示，已向泰国政府提出强烈抗议，工商部长皮尤什·戈亚尔与美国贸易代表凯瑟琳·泰和欧盟执行副主席瓦尔迪斯·东布罗夫斯基斯就此事进行了交涉，明确表示这种语言和行为是不可接受的。

Govt officials told TOI that the Thai ambassador had got all her facts wrong as only around 40% of the produce is procured by govt to meet food security obligations. A part of the remaining quantity, which is not procured by govt agencies, is exported from India at market price.

Asking a farmer that they have to sell their entire produce without any stock kee is the worst form colonialism that these EU and US people can practice. If they want food security, let them hire Indian farmers on work permits to go to their countries for 100,000 USD per year and grow crops.

In this trade dispute Thiland belongs to bloc of poor countries, and should be natura                   lly on side of India, China , Africa etc... But I will not be surprised if representative has got some kind of favor or bribe by western countries to switch sides... Isn't this how Europeans played politics with Indian kings in subcontinent.... Same here but at a bigger stage.... Unless Asia/Africa don't have same kind of Unity that Western nation has on global stage, we will be exploited or played out..in one way or the other ...

Lately, one sees, every disagreemnt India and another country seems to have, somehow blows up into some hostility toward the other country. The media puts it outh there, to make it looks like the sky has fallen over India, and we are all up in arms, The WTO is an org. where disputes, and disagreements happen all the time, and can be settled diplomatically. Many countries have such disagreemnet, but it looks like only a in a few countries it is made out as if this other foreign country is 'attacking' us. China, Pakistan behave this way too. Are the people in Thailand all up in arms? We have an elected government, with able/intelligent people representing India at the WTO and other orgs. Leave it them, they will do what's best for India.

Sad indeed ! At WTO, these entities have surreptitiously used Thailand as a “ Scapegoat “ to raise issues ! Poor Thailand had to CRAWL in front of EU & US

对美国来说，失败太多了，到处都是敌人，中国、以色列、哈马斯、巴勒斯坦、胡塞武装、朝鲜、伊朗、伊拉克、甚至是沙特。

欧盟更糟，俄罗斯狠狠地踢了他们一脚，以至于英国和德国陷入衰退，失去了北约国家的尊重？真是悲哀！

在世贸组织，这些国家暗中利用泰国作为“替罪羊”来提出问题！可怜的泰国不得不在欧盟和美国面前卑躬屈膝。
