An Indian Bharatanatyam dancer was killed in the United States amid a spike in mysterious deaths of Indian students there. “My friend [Amarnath Ghosh] was shot & killed in St louis academy [neighborhood], US on [Tuesday] evening,” said TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee, a friend of Ghosh. The Indian consulate in Chicago condemned the “reprehensible gun attack” and said that it has “strongly taken up” the murder case to the authorities. At least half a dozen Indian students have died or been killed in the U.S. in the last one month.

Chicago was always among top 10 cities in US with highest murder rates. After pandemic, crime rates have sharply risen, even in peaceful cities. So Chicago must have gotten even worse than it was before. America used to be a mostly safe country once. Now it's not as safe. Mass shootings and robberies are common, even in areas that had never seen robberies in the past. Too bad Indian students didn't get the memo.
